SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 134 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the League of United Latin American Citizens on the occasion of its 90th anniversary, which is being celebrated during National LULAC Week, February 17 through 23, 2019; and WHEREAS, LULAC was founded on February 17, 1929, in Corpus Christi, to champion the cause of Hispanic Americans in education, employment, economic development, and civil rights; it has become the oldest, largest, and most successful Hispanic civil rights and service organization in the country; and WHEREAS, Through the years, LULAC has developed a broad range of nationwide programs designed to address such issues as educational attainment, job training, housing, citizenship, and voter registration; and WHEREAS, The organization has developed a legislative platform that promotes humanitarian relief for citizens and immigrants, increased educational opportunities for young people, and equal treatment for all citizens; local LULAC councils across the country have enjoyed great success in implementing this agenda; and WHEREAS, For 90 years, LULAC has been a leader in the nation's journey to live up to its ideals, and it is truly fitting that the organization receive special recognition as it reaches this milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th Legislature, hereby commend the members of the League of United Latin American Citizens on their commitment to social justice and equal rights and extend to all best wishes on the occasion of LULAC's 90th anniversary celebration; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
