| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the League of United Latin American Citizens on the |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | occasion of its 90th anniversary, which is being celebrated |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | during National LULAC Week, February 17 through 23, 2019; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, LULAC was founded on February 17, 1929, in Corpus |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Christi, to champion the cause of Hispanic Americans in |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | education, employment, economic development, and civil rights; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | it has become the oldest, largest, and most successful Hispanic |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | civil rights and service organization in the country; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, LULAC has developed a broad |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | range of nationwide programs designed to address such issues as |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | educational attainment, job training, housing, citizenship, and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | voter registration; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, The organization has developed a legislative |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | platform that promotes humanitarian relief for citizens and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | immigrants, increased educational opportunities for young |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | people, and equal treatment for all citizens; local LULAC |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | councils across the country have enjoyed great success in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | implementing this agenda; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, For 90 years, LULAC has been a leader in the |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | nation's journey to live up to its ideals, and it is truly fitting |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | that the organization receive special recognition as it reaches |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | this milestone in its history; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend the members of the League of United |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Latin American Citizens on their commitment to social justice and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | equal rights and extend to all best wishes on the occasion of |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | LULAC's 90th anniversary celebration; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | organization as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate. |
