| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, For the past 110 years, Texas PTA has helped |

| 3 | 3 | | young Texans to reach their full potential by empowering families |

| 4 | 4 | | and communities to become advocates for all children; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Since its founding by Ella Caruthers Porter on |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | October 19, 1909, this outstanding organization has led the way |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | in supporting the health, education, and overall well-being of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | children across the state; in addition, the group has served as a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | valued resource for parents, teachers, school administrators, |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and community leaders; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Drawing on the efforts of half a million members, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Texas PTA has a presence on nearly 3,000 campuses in the state, |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and its headquarters are located in the heart of downtown Austin |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | near the Capitol; the organization is skillfully led by president |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Sheri Doss of San Antonio, a mother of two, volunteer, and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | activist who has most recently served on the Texas Board of |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Education Long-Range Plan Steering Committee; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, By acting as a voice for the children of Texas and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | advancing the mission of their schools, Texas PTA has played a |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | vital role in making the Lone Star State an even better place in |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | which to live and raise a family, and it is a pleasure to |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | recognize the members of this notable group at this time; now, |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | therefore, be it |

| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby recognize Texas PTA for its work in behalf of |

| 26 | 26 | | the state's youth and extend to all those associated with the |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | organization sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
