| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Gonzalo Hernandez shuttered his business, Gonzalo's |

| 3 | 3 | | Mexican Restaurant, in September 2018, drawing to a close nearly |

| 4 | 4 | | four decades of delighting the diners of Longview; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Born in Austin in 1940, Mr. Hernandez began |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | working in restaurants at the age of 14; after serving for two |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | years in the United States Army during the 1960s, he was managing |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | a restaurant in Dallas when a friend urged him to move to |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Longview; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Hernandez opened Gonzalo's Mexican Restaurant |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | on April 3, 1979, and in the years since, the establishment has |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | drawn generations of East Texas residents with its traditional |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | menu featuring such items as chiles rellenos, fajitas, and tacos |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | al carbon; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Seating 50 diners, Gonzalo's yellow-and-red |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | building was a popular gathering spot for years, and its walls |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | were lined with family photographs, birth announcements, wedding |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | invitations, and autographed photos of such famous customers as |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | movie star and former Longview resident Matthew McConaughey; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Hernandez has benefited |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | from the love and support of Consuelo, his wife of 50 years, who |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | worked part-time in the restaurant, as well as that of his two |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | sons, Alejandro and Eduardo; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, For nearly four decades, Gonzalo Hernandez |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | provided warm hospitality and delicious food to the members of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | his community, and he may indeed reflect with pride on his many |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | achievements during a career well spent; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commemorate the closing of Gonzalo's Mexican |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Restaurant and extend to Gonzalo Hernandez and his staff sincere |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
