| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Literacy Center of Harlingen on the occasion of its |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | 2019 Celebrity Roast, which is taking place February 7, 2019; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Literacy Center of Harlingen is a nonprofit |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | organization dedicated to helping adults in Harlingen and the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | surrounding areas reach their full potential by enabling them to |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | acquire the English language skills they need to help themselves |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | in their daily lives; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The center offers a wide range of courses, |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | including English as a Second Language, Basic Literacy, Basic |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Math Instruction, and Citizenship Preparation; its GED Program |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | and Computer Assisted Instruction have helped countless people |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | continue their education; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, This year's celebrity roast will pay tribute to |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Lupita Muniz, a Harlingen educator and community leader who has |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | worked to raise awareness of environmental issues and has been |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | recognized with Outstanding Environmental Teacher of the Year |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | awards from three Texas governors; she is the board chair for the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Harlingen Boys and Girls Club, has been an active fund-raiser for |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | numerous charities, and helped Harlingen become an All-America |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | City; she is also an avid traveler and has climbed to the top of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | the Great Wall of China; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, With such an eminent honoree, the Literacy Center |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | of Harlingen is sure to have a successful 2019 Celebrity Roast; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Literacy Center of Harlingen on |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | its outstanding work in the community and extend to its |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | management and staff best wishes for a successful and memorable |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | 2019 Celebrity Roast; and, be it further |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
