| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | welcome to Austin the members of the Abilene delegation on the |

| 4 | 4 | | occasion of Abilene Day at the Capitol, which is being celebrated |

| 5 | 5 | | February 13, 2019; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Abilene has been one of the foremost commercial, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | agricultural, and educational centers in West Texas since its |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | founding in the late 19th century; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, the Abilene Chamber of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Commerce has played a vital role in making Abilene the inviting |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | place in which to live and work that it is today; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, In its early days, the chamber was instrumental in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | such civic improvements as the development of adequate water |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | supplies; later, efforts by the chamber led to the construction |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of a new Taylor County Courthouse and a modern airport terminal; |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | the chamber and city officials were largely responsible for the |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | establishment of Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, The people of Abilene are justifiably proud of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | their city for its countless contributions to the growth and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | prosperity of our state, and it is truly fitting that a day be set |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | aside to celebrate Abilene's many assets; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Legislature, hereby extend best wishes to the Abilene delegation |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | for a memorable Abilene Day at the Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | honor of this special occasion. |
