| 6 | 6 | | Fargo at the Texas Bowl on December 27 in Houston; and |

| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Gilpin is the first player from the Rio Grande |

| 8 | 8 | | Valley to ever receive this highly prestigious title, which in |

| 9 | 9 | | previous years has been presented to a number of renowned players |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | who have gone on to further glory in the collegiate and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | professional ranks; and |

| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, During the 2018 season, Mr. Gilpin threw for a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | record-breaking 4,545 yards and 50 touchdowns, and he also rushed |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | for 2,115 yards and 32 TDs; he piloted the Patriots through a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | successful regular season, and his exceptional play helped the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | team reach the quarterfinals of the University Interscholastic |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | League Class 5A Division 1 playoffs, becoming just the third Rio |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Grande Valley squad since 1990 to advance that far into the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | postseason; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Gilpin also garnered other accolades for his |

| 21 | 21 | | superlative performance in 2018, including the 5A Offensive |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Player of the Year award from the Associated Press Sports Editors |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and recognition as the First Team quarterback in the APSE |

|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of his high school career, Landry |

| 26 | 26 | | Gilpin has distinguished himself as one of the finest football |

| 27 | 27 | | players in the Lone Star State, and he is indeed deserving of this |

| 28 | 28 | | coveted honor; now, therefore, be it |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
