| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, This biennial event was established in 1997 by |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Rita Littlefield, a founding member of the Texas Renal Coalition |

| 8 | 8 | | and the Kidney Alliance of Texas, who has worked tirelessly for |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | more than three decades in behalf of kidney patients; in the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | drive to raise awareness of a significant medical issue, the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | gathering unites patients, health care providers, and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | organizations, including the National Kidney Foundation, Texas |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Kidney Foundation, South Plains Kidney Foundation, and State |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Association of Medical Professionals; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Although kidney disease is a serious and rapidly |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | growing health problem, many Texans remain unaware that they are |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | at risk; left undetected, chronic kidney disease can lead to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | premature death from heart disease or other complications, or to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | kidney failure, requiring dialysis or a transplant to sustain |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | life; early detection and management can prevent or slow the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | progression of chronic kidney disease and decrease health care |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | expenditures associated with the treatment of advanced kidney |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | disease; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Many medical professionals, organizations, and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | volunteers in the state are committed to ensuring the highest |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | quality of care for kidney patients; the Texas Renal Coalition |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | contributes significantly to this mission as it monitors health |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | policies for dialysis and transplant patients, offers education |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | programs to improve public awareness about the disease, and acts |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | as a clearinghouse for information related to legislative |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | issues; and |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, Benefiting from the dedication and leadership of |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Rita Littlefield, the Texas Renal Coalition, the Kidney Alliance |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | of Texas, and their associates have made a positive difference in |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | the lives of innumerable Texans, and it is most fitting to |

| 36 | 36 | | recognize Ms. Littlefield and these organizations for their |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | achievements; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |

| 39 | 39 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 12, 2019, as Rita |
