1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 184
2	2	WHEREAS, The University of Texas at El Paso has attained a
3	3	prestigious R1 designation in the Carnegie Classification of
4	4	Institutions of Higher Education; and
5	5	WHEREAS, For nearly half a century, the Carnegie
6	6	Classification has analyzed and categorized higher learning
7	7	institutions with outstanding research and policy analysis
8	8	programs; the R1 designation is conferred to top tier doctoral
9	9	universities with high research activity, and this exemplary
10	10	ranking has been accorded to only 130 out of the 2,883 four-year
11	11	higher education institutions in the United States; and
12	12	WHEREAS, In the past 30 years, under the leadership of
13	13	President Diana Natalicio, The University of Texas at El Paso has
14	14	experienced significant growth in its research programs and
15	15	expenditures; doctoral degree offerings have exponentially
16	16	increased from one to 22 programs across campus, and annual
17	17	research expenditures have risen from $6 million to $95 million;
18	18	alongside this expansion in the scope and quality of research
19	19	activities, the university has maintained its commitment to
20	20	access, placing high priority on engaging students in its
21	21	research endeavors; and
22	22	WHEREAS, The University of Texas at El Paso has
23	23	distinguished itself as one of the top research universities in
24	24	the nation, and this newly earned ranking is well-deserved
25	25	recognition of its dedication to educational excellence; now,
26	26	therefore, be it
27	27	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
28	28	Legislature, hereby congratulate The University of Texas at El
29	29	Paso for attaining the R1 designation in the Carnegie
30	30	Classification of Institutions of Higher Education and extend to
31	31	the administration, faculty, students, and staff sincere best
32	32	wishes for continued success; and, be it further
33	33	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
34	34	The University of Texas at El Paso as an expression of high regard
35	35	from the Texas Senate.
