| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join citizens across the state in recognizing February 14, 2019, |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | as Texas Council on Family Violence Day at the Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Council on Family Violence was |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | established by representatives from nine Texas communities who |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | sought to form a unified voice against family violence and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | domestic abuse in Texas; the organization's first meeting was |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | held in April of 1978; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, the council has addressed |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | family violence by creating opportunities for cooperation and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | collaboration among local agencies and by offering service |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | providers the education and training they need to help foster |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | safe and healthy familial relationships in their communities; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the council also has consistently worked to improve public policy |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | by advocating for laws that hold offenders accountable and that |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | increase the safety of victims; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Today, the Texas Council on Family Violence is a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | nationally recognized leader in the effort to end family |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | violence; members of the council have helped to make a difference |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | in the lives of thousands of individuals and families, and it is |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | indeed fitting that we set aside a day to honor the council's |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | invaluable service on behalf of vulnerable Texans; now, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend all associated with the Texas |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Council on Family Violence for their efforts to end domestic |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | violence in Texas and extend to them best wishes for a productive |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | and memorable Texas Council on Family Violence Day at the |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | the council as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. |
