| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Kier Le'Juan Spates for his outstanding work in making |

| 4 | 4 | | a difference in the lives of those living with Sickle Cell |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Disease; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Kier Spates is an accomplished performer and |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | comedian who has appeared in venues around the world with such |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | artists as Aretha Franklin, Lyfe Jennings, Music Soul Child, and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Anita Baker; he has performed for military personnel on USO |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | tours, and he has enjoyed great success as an Emmy-nominated |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | writer for Steve Harvey's television show; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Spates founded the Kier's Hope Foundation in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Atlanta in 2015 to raise awareness of the issues facing children |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and adults with Sickle Cell Disease; now based in Dallas, the |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | foundation has played a vital role in raising awareness across |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Texas of the effects of the disease; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, He has served as the celebrity ambassador for the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Sickle Cell Disease Society of America and has been an invaluable |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | supporter to those facing a lifetime of managing the disease; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Raising awareness of Sickle Cell Disease is |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | important for the health and safety of Texans across the state, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | and it is truly fitting that special recognition be given to Kier |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Spates and his foundation; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend Kier Le'Juan Spates for his |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | exceptional work on behalf of those suffering from Sickle Cell |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Disease and proclaim June of 2019 Kier's Hope Sickle Cell |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Awareness Month in Texas; and, be it further |

| 29 | 29 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
