| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, This marked the first state crown for the Lobos |

| 7 | 7 | | since 1937, and the team got the job done in impressive fashion, |

| 8 | 8 | | compiling a perfect 16-0 record; along the way, they dominated |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | their regular season opponents and captured the district crown |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | before going on to excel in postseason battles; opening the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | playoffs with a win against Copperas Cove, Longview then |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | dispatched Prosper, Vandegrift, Westfield, and Tascosa High |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Schools to earn their spot in the championship game; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Facing off against Beaumont West Brook High |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | School with the title on the line, Longview took an early lead but |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | trailed by eight points at intermission; the squad battled its |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | way back in the second half and claimed the lead on a two-yard |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | touchdown run with 4:42 remaining; the Lobo defense then rose to |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the occasion by forcing a turnover on the ensuing West Brook |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | drive, and when the final seconds ticked off the clock, the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Longview faithful celebrated a nail-biting 35-34 victory; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The Lobos' success was the result of a true team |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | effort, with each member of the roster providing valuable |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | contributions over the course of the season; these dedicated |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | athletes benefited from the expertise and leadership of head |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | coach John King and his staff; and |

| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The players of the Longview High School football |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | team demonstrated admirable skill and determination in winning |

| 29 | 29 | | the state crown and compiling a flawless record against top |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | competition, and they will cherish their memories of this |

| 31 | 31 | | exemplary accomplishment for years to come; now, therefore, be it |

| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
