| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in |

| 3 | 3 | | welcoming to Austin the visiting delegation from Denton County |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | and in designating February 18 through 20, 2019, as Denton County |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | Days at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Denton County was created in 1846 out of land from |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | the original Peters Colony Grant and was named for John B. |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Denton, a pioneer lawyer and Methodist minister; the City of |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Denton has served as the county seat since 1857, and the historic |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | Denton County Courthouse that stands on the square in Denton was |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | dedicated in 1897; with its limestone exterior and majestic clock |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | tower, the courthouse is an impressive edifice; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Since the 1970s, Denton County has experienced |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | rapid growth; its cities and chambers of commerce provide a |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | welcoming business climate, and the county has been recognized |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | nationally for its exceptional assets; and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Well known as a center for higher education, Denton |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | County is home to such distinguished institutions as the University |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of North Texas, established in 1890, Texas Woman's University, |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | established in 1901, and North Central Texas College; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Denton County has 11 outstanding public school |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | districts, and the area offers many cultural and recreational |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | opportunities; the Texas Motor Speedway, Grapevine Lake and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Lewisville Lake, the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve, and the Denton |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | County Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum contribute to the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | region's thriving economy and are major tourist attractions; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, the citizens of Denton County |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | have contributed greatly to the growth and prosperity of the Lone |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Star State, and they can be justifiably proud of their many |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | achievements and of the county's exceptional amenities; now, |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby join the Denton County delegation in |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | celebrating February 18 through 20, 2019, as Denton County Days |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | at the State Capitol and extend to all best wishes for a memorable |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | visit to Austin; and, be it further |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | honor of this special occasion. |
