| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize the Katy Independent School District, which has been |

| 4 | 4 | | named to the College Board's 9th Annual AP District Honor Roll; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The AP District Honor Roll is awarded to school |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | districts that demonstrate increased access to Advanced |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Placement programs and increased participation in those |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | programs; additional criteria include percentage of minority |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | students participating in the programs and improvement in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | performance levels; the Katy Independent School District is one |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of only 373 districts in the United States and Canada to receive |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | this prestigious designation; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Advanced Placement is one of the most effective |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | strategies used by the state to keep college tuition affordable; |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | students who receive college credit for their Advanced Placement |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | courses save their families thousands of dollars each year; in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 2017 alone, Texas high school students saved $266 million in |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | tuition fees as a result of their AP exams; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, Advanced Placement programs have played a vital |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | role in expanding educational opportunities and in helping |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | students to graduate from college in four years; the Katy |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Independent School District is truly deserving of special |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | recognition for creating one of the best programs of its kind in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | the country; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Legislature, hereby commend the Katy Independent School District |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | on its commitment to excellence in education and extend |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | congratulations to the district on being named to the College |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Board's 9th Annual AP District Honor Roll; and, be it further |
