1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 211
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas on the occasion of
4	4	its 125th anniversary; and
5	5	WHEREAS, Parkland Hospital opened its doors on May 19,
6	6	1894, as a small treatment center for the poor, and over the years
7	7	it has grown to become a world-class medical institution; and
8	8	WHEREAS, Parkland Memorial Hospital was imprinted on the
9	9	nation's memory on November 22, 1963, with the tragic death of
10	10	President John F. Kennedy; in the ensuing years, the hospital has
11	11	earned widespread recognition for its cutting-edge trauma and
12	12	burn centers, its renowned labor and delivery departments, and
13	13	its innovative and fiscally sound approach to comprehensive
14	14	community health care; and
15	15	WHEREAS, For well over a century, Parkland has continued in
16	16	its mission of providing quality treatment for all, regardless of
17	17	financial status; it has expanded services to include a variety
18	18	of specialty and community clinics, and the hospital serves as
19	19	home to both the Injury Prevention Center of Greater Dallas and
20	20	the North Texas Poison Center; and
21	21	WHEREAS, As America faces the challenges of the 21st
22	22	century, Parkland Health and Hospital System remains committed
23	23	to excellence and will continue to honor its founding principles
24	24	of "care, compassion, and community"; now, therefore, be it
25	25	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
26	26	Legislature, hereby commend all associated with Parkland
27	27	Memorial Hospital and Parkland Health and Hospital System for
28	28	carrying on a proud tradition of care in the Dallas County
29	29	community and congratulate them as they celebrate 125 years of
30	30	exceptional service; and, be it further
31	31	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
32	32	the hospital as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
