| 3 | 3 | | State Capitol takes place February 25, 2019, and the occasion |

| 4 | 4 | | provides a fitting opportunity to recognize those associated |

| 5 | 5 | | with this notable institution; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1973, the University of |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Houston-Victoria boasts more than 19,000 alumni, including |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | acclaimed author and artist Van G. Garrett, and is meeting higher |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | education needs in a city that is home to more than 65,000 people |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | and that serves as a regional hub for the seven-county area known |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | as the Golden Crescent; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The university has an enrollment of approximately |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 4,400 students annually, and about 1,000 students graduate each |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | year; the institute offers 70 bachelor's and master's degree |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | programs with concentrations in the fields of arts and sciences, |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | business administration, education, the health professions, and |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | human development; it was the first public university in Texas to |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | offer an accelerated bachelor's degree program, and it is one of |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | the most affordable universities in the state; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The only accredited four-year university in the |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | City of Victoria, the school is home to a number of formidable |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | athletic teams that compete in baseball, softball, and men's and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | women's golf and soccer in the National Association of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Intercollegiate Athletes' Red River Conference; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Under the leadership of President Robert K. |

| 26 | 26 | | Glenn, the university has continued to grow as a diverse |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | institution; the student body currently represents 19 states |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | across the country and 38 countries worldwide; moreover, the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | school has been recognized as a Hispanic-Serving Institution and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | a military-friendly campus; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Throughout its history, the University of |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Houston-Victoria has provided its students with outstanding |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | educational opportunities that provide flexibility, promote the |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | financial well-being of the students, and advance the quality of |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | life in the community through excellence in teaching, research, |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | and service; in so doing, the university has played an important |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | role in the growth and vitality of the Lone Star State; now, |

| 39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
