SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 226
WHEREAS, The State of Texas leads the nation in oil and
natural gas production, pipeline miles, and refining capacity
and has contributed greatly to the achievement of an
unprecedented level of American energy security; and
WHEREAS, The oil and natural gas industry creates
high-paying jobs and generates revenue in taxes and royalties that
directly fund our schools, roads, and emergency services; this
revenue amounted to over $14 billion in fiscal year 2018; and
WHEREAS, Proud energy supporters are celebrating Texas
Energy Day at the Capitol on February 20, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Many Texas oil and natural gas companies are
developing new technologies that reduce water use, expand water
reuse, and increase the use of naturally occurring salt water, or
brackish water, in their operations; and
WHEREAS, As a result of innovation and advances in
technology and expanded use of natural gas for electricity,
carbon dioxide emissions in the United States are at the lowest
levels in 20 years, and today, natural gas production has the
smallest carbon footprint of all traditional fuel sources; and
WHEREAS, Even as oil and natural gas production in Texas
has skyrocketed, methane emissions from oil and natural gas
systems are down 14 percent as oil and natural gas companies
continuously work to reduce emissions; and
WHEREAS, Oil and natural gas are used to make 96 percent of
the products and materials that we use every day, including
plastics, medicines, computers, and life-saving devices; and
WHEREAS, Due to the use of hydraulic fracturing, or
fracking, Texas is the nation's top producer of oil and natural
gas, and the United States is the world's leader in oil and
natural gas production; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
Legislature, hereby recognize February 20, 2019, as Texas Energy
Day at the Capitol and extend to all who have come to celebrate
this day best wishes for a productive and enjoyable visit.
