| 3 | 3 | | natural gas production, pipeline miles, and refining capacity |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | and has contributed greatly to the achievement of an |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | unprecedented level of American energy security; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, The oil and natural gas industry creates |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | high-paying jobs and generates revenue in taxes and royalties that |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | directly fund our schools, roads, and emergency services; this |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | revenue amounted to over $14 billion in fiscal year 2018; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Proud energy supporters are celebrating Texas |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Energy Day at the Capitol on February 20, 2019; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Many Texas oil and natural gas companies are |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | developing new technologies that reduce water use, expand water |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | reuse, and increase the use of naturally occurring salt water, or |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | brackish water, in their operations; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, As a result of innovation and advances in |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | technology and expanded use of natural gas for electricity, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | carbon dioxide emissions in the United States are at the lowest |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | levels in 20 years, and today, natural gas production has the |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | smallest carbon footprint of all traditional fuel sources; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Even as oil and natural gas production in Texas |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | has skyrocketed, methane emissions from oil and natural gas |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | systems are down 14 percent as oil and natural gas companies |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | continuously work to reduce emissions; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Oil and natural gas are used to make 96 percent of |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | the products and materials that we use every day, including |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | plastics, medicines, computers, and life-saving devices; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Due to the use of hydraulic fracturing, or |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | fracking, Texas is the nation's top producer of oil and natural |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | gas, and the United States is the world's leader in oil and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | natural gas production; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 20, 2019, as Texas Energy |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Day at the Capitol and extend to all who have come to celebrate |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | this day best wishes for a productive and enjoyable visit. |
