| 7 | 7 | | WHEREAS, Established as an agricultural club in Jack |

| 8 | 8 | | County in 1908, 4-H is now the largest youth development program |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | in the state, with more than 522,000 students from every Texas |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | county taking part each year; the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Service and the Prairie View A&M Cooperative Extension Program |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | administer the program and are assisted by more than 27,000 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | trained volunteers; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, The organization's name stands for Head, Heart, |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Hands, and Health, reflecting different aspects of an individual's |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | personal and social responsibilities; guided by the motto "to make |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | the best better," today's clubs emphasize leadership, citizenship, |

| 18 | 18 | | and strong character, help members acquire valuable life skills, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and foster readiness for college and the workplace; participants |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | can engage in projects related not only to agriculture but also |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | science, engineering, technology, natural resources, and healthy |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | lifestyles; and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, 4-H has enriched the lives of |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | countless youths across the Lone Star State, and the program's |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | alumni have gone on to make a lasting, positive difference in |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | their communities and beyond; now, therefore, be it |

| 27 | 27 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Legislature, hereby recognize March 14, 2019, as 4-H Day at the |
