| 3 | 3 | | Austin on February 25, 2019, to celebrate Rockwall County Day at |

| 4 | 4 | | the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Situated on the gently rolling Blackland Prairie |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | of North Texas, the region was inhabited by members of the Caddo |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | and Cherokee tribes before the first European resident, John |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | O. Heath, settled on the East Fork of the Trinity River in 1846; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Rockwall County was established in 1873; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The smallest county in Texas, yet among the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | fastest growing, Rockwall County today boasts a population of |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | approximately 97,000 people; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The county seat, Rockwall, was named by early |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | explorer T. U. Wade, who discovered a large rock wall when |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | digging a well in the mid-1800s; dedicated to preserving their |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | community's rich heritage and family-friendly environment, |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | residents and civic leaders, including the Rockwall Area Chamber |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | of Commerce, are working hard to keep a small-town feel to a |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | vibrant city even as its population continues to grow; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, The city of Heath boasts a premier residential |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | community located along the picturesque shores of Lake Ray |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Hubbard, and its residents enjoy high property values, low tax |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | rates, and exemplary schools; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, Royse City is looking to the future while also |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | making it a priority to preserve its roots; with a lively |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | downtown and superior schools, it has truly become an ideal spot |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | to call home; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, In an area known for its rich blackland soil, the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | town of McLendon-Chisholm dates back to the mid-1800s and is |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | partially named for P. A. McLendon, an area landowner, who |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | encouraged growth when he built a store and a blacksmith shop |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | before the community merged with another to become the inviting |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | town it is today; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Fate is located just four miles northeast of |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Rockwall on State Highway 66 and the Missouri, Kansas, and Texas |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | railroad line; this fast-growing and family-friendly city |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | emphasizes a high quality of life and a true small-town |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | atmosphere; and |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Rockwall County is an exceptional place to live |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | and work, and its citizens may take justifiable pride in their |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | community's unique contributions to the story of the Lone Star |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | State; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 44 | 44 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 25, 2019, as Rockwall |
|---|
| 45 | 45 | | County Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting |
|---|
| 46 | 46 | | delegation sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable |
