6 | 6 | | memories of Gene Pemberton of Temple, who passed away on |

7 | 7 | | January 27, 2019, at the age of 79; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Cameron on October 27, 1939, Gene |
---|
9 | 9 | | Pemberton was the son of E. M. and Aleyne Pemberton and the |
---|
10 | 10 | | brother of Stanton and Cheryl; a graduate of Temple High School |
---|
11 | 11 | | and Temple Junior College, he continued his education at |
---|
12 | 12 | | Hardin-Simmons University, where he earned a bachelor of |
---|
13 | 13 | | business administration degree; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, In 1961, Mr. Pemberton was joined in matrimony to |
---|
15 | 15 | | the former Mary Holick, with whom he shared a fulfilling union of |
---|
16 | 16 | | five and a half decades until her passing in 2017; he was a |
---|
17 | 17 | | dedicated father to his children, Gary, Allen, and Lisa, and he |
---|
18 | 18 | | was further blessed with five grandchildren, Brandon, Andrew, |
---|
19 | 19 | | Jeffrey, Elisabeth, and Emalye; and |
---|
20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Pemberton worked for American Desk |
---|
21 | 21 | | Manufacturing Company for 31 years, during which time he served |
---|
22 | 22 | | as vice president of marketing and director of special projects; |
---|
23 | 23 | | a prominent figure in the local sports community, he was a color |
---|
24 | 24 | | commentator for KTEM Radio on Temple Wildcat Broadcast for nearly |
---|
25 | 25 | | three decades, and he and his partner, Mark McLain, received |
---|
26 | 26 | | recognition for their outstanding work with an Associated Press |
---|
27 | 27 | | Award in 1992 and a Katie Award from the Press Club of Dallas in |
---|
28 | 28 | | 1993; in addition, Mr. Pemberton belonged to the Southwest |
---|
29 | 29 | | Basketball Officials Association for 23 years, and the |
---|
30 | 30 | | organization honored him with a lifetime membership in 1984; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Following his tenure with American Desk, |
---|
32 | 32 | | Mr. Pemberton was hired by the Houston Astros, serving initially |
---|
33 | 33 | | as director of community development; he subsequently became the |
---|
34 | 34 | | team's chaplain, earning the distinction of being the first |
---|
35 | 35 | | full-time chaplain in Major League Baseball; this esteemed civic |
---|
36 | 36 | | leader was also president of the Kiwanis Club and a Legion of |
---|
37 | 37 | | Honor member, and he was a devoted congregant and deacon of |
---|
38 | 38 | | Bethel Church of the Assemblies of God; and |
---|
39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family, his community, and |
---|
40 | 40 | | his faith, Gene Pemberton made a meaningful difference in the |
---|
41 | 41 | | lives of his loved ones and fellow citizens alike, and his |
---|
42 | 42 | | contributions will be fondly remembered for years to come; now, |
---|
43 | 43 | | therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
45 | 45 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Gene Pemberton |
---|
46 | 46 | | and extend heartfelt sympathy to all who mourn his passing; and, |
---|
47 | 47 | | be it further |
---|
48 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

49 | 49 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
