7 | 7 | | unranked Patriots following their semifinal loss in the American |

8 | 8 | | Southwest Conference tournament, but under the direction of head |

9 | 9 | | coach Brent Porche, UT Tyler capitalized on the at-large bid it |

10 | 10 | | received to the NCAA tournament; the team went on to win the |

11 | 11 | | Central Regional Tournament and earn a slot in the Division III |
---|
12 | 12 | | championship bracket; after defeating the State University of |
---|
13 | 13 | | New York at Oswego and Misericordia University, the Patriots |

14 | 14 | | climbed to the elimination round, where they dropped the first |

15 | 15 | | game to Randolph-Macon College and then rallied to take the |

16 | 16 | | rematch and advance to the NCAA finale; and |

17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, With the title on the line, UT Tyler faced off |

18 | 18 | | against No. 6 Texas Lutheran University in the best-of-three |

19 | 19 | | championship series; the Patriots dominated the opener, scoring |

20 | 20 | | two runs in the first inning and adding five in the fourth frame |

21 | 21 | | to surge to an 8-1 victory; demonstrating its tenacity throughout |

22 | 22 | | Game Two, UT Tyler erased an early deficit and then broke the |

23 | 23 | | contest open by scoring five runs in the seventh inning to |
---|
24 | 24 | | prevail by a final score of 9-6; with the win, the Patriots |
---|
25 | 25 | | collected the first championship in program history and also |
---|
26 | 26 | | became the first American Southwest Conference team to claim a |

28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, UT Tyler was led by Simon Sedillo, who pitched |

33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Winning a national title represents the |

34 | 34 | | culmination of countless hours of hard work and an unwavering |

37 | 37 | | accomplishment for many years to come; now, therefore, be it |
