2	2	WHEREAS, Civic and business leaders from Tyler, Kilgore,
3	3	Lindale, Gladewater, and Longview are joining together on
4	4	February 26, 2019, to celebrate East Texas Coalition Day at the
5	5	State Capitol; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Situated in the Piney Woods region of East Texas,
7	7	Tyler, Kilgore, Lindale, Gladewater, and Longview share the
8	8	attributes of great natural beauty, abundant resources, and
9	9	energetic and engaged citizens, all of which have played a vital
10	10	role in the growth and prosperity of our state; and
11	11	WHEREAS, Tyler has a preeminent medical center, as well as
12	12	multiple institutions of higher education, and it also is home to
13	13	the renowned Texas Rose Festival and the Municipal Rose Garden
14	14	and Museum; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Kilgore is an important center for the oil and
16	16	high technology industries, and Kilgore College offers such
17	17	outstanding cultural attractions as the Texas Shakespeare
18	18	Festival and the world-famous Rangerette drill team Showcase and
19	19	Museum; and
20	20	WHEREAS, Lindale has long been known for its impressive
21	21	blackberry harvest and is home to one of Texas's premier school
22	22	districts; Lindale Independent School District has achieved
23	23	state and national recognition for its tradition of excellence,
24	24	and Lindale High School has won the 5A Academic State
25	25	Championship meet for the past two years; and
26	26	WHEREAS, Regarded as the "Antique Capital of East Texas,"
27	27	Gladewater is nestled at the junction of Gregg, Upshur, and Smith
28	28	Counties, and it hosts a number of noteworthy events throughout
29	29	the year, including East Texas Gusher Days, the Roundup Rodeo, and
30	30	the Arts and Crafts Festival; and
31	31	WHEREAS, Longview is the largest city in Gregg County and
32	32	is the location of LeTourneau University; the city boasts the
33	33	Longview Museum of Fine Arts, one of its several outstanding
34	34	museums, and the Great Texas Balloon Race; in the past year, the
35	35	East Texas Advanced Manufacturing Academy opened, and the
36	36	Longview Lobos reached the pinnacle of high school football
37	37	success when the team won the 2018 University Interscholastic
38	38	League 6A Division II state championship; and
39	39	WHEREAS, The residents of these five notable cities may
40	40	take great pride in their impressive achievements as they
41	41	confidently embrace the opportunities of the future, and this
42	42	special day provides a fitting opportunity to honor them and
43	43	their unique region of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it
44	44	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
45	45	Legislature, hereby recognize February 26, 2019, as East Texas
46	46	Coalition Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting
47	47	delegation best wishes for a meaningful and memorable day in Austin.
