2	2	WHEREAS, Students, faculty, and staff from Tarleton State
3	3	University are gathering in Austin on February 19, 2019, in
4	4	celebration of Tarleton State University Day at the State
5	5	Capitol; and
6	6	WHEREAS, The school was established in 1899 as John
7	7	Tarleton College, a four-year liberal arts college, with an
8	8	endowment from a Stephenville landowner and namesake; in 1917,
9	9	during the 35th Legislature, John Tarleton Agricultural College
10	10	joined the Texas Agricultural and Mechanical College as
11	11	inaugural members of the Texas A&M University System; and
12	12	WHEREAS, Today, Tarleton's enrollment surpasses 13,000
13	13	students distributed among seven colleges, with campuses in
14	14	Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Midlothian, and Bryan; the
15	15	university offers more than 100 bachelor's, master's, and
16	16	doctoral degrees, including a new Ph.D. program in criminal
17	17	justice; and
18	18	WHEREAS, Tarleton benefits from the support of the Texas
19	19	Legislature, the cooperation of local governments, and the
20	20	leadership of its president, Dr. F. Dominic Dottavio, its
21	21	governing board, the Texas A&M University System Board of
22	22	Regents, and system chancellor John Sharp; with a strong
23	23	commitment to growth, the university anticipates a number of
24	24	exciting initiatives in 2019, including the opening of the first
25	25	academic facility at its new Fort Worth campus, an expanded and
26	26	renovated Memorial Stadium, a new engineering building, and
27	27	replacement facilities at the Tarleton Agricultural Center
28	28	following a 2016 tornado; and
29	29	WHEREAS, Long known for its service to first-generation
30	30	students, Tarleton remains focused on timely and successful
31	31	degree completion, and it maintains a reputation as one of the
32	32	most efficient and affordable universities in the nation; and
33	33	WHEREAS, Now in its 120th year, Tarleton State University
34	34	looks forward to the future while taking pride in its rich
35	35	history, and it will continue to provide its students with an
36	36	outstanding education and a solid foundation for success in the
37	37	years to come; now, therefore, be it
38	38	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
39	39	Legislature, hereby recognize February 19, 2019, as Tarleton
40	40	State University Day at the State Capitol and extend a warm
41	41	welcome to the visiting delegation.
