| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Proud residents of Parker County are gathering in |

| 3 | 3 | | Austin on February 25, 2019, in celebration of Parker County Day |

| 4 | 4 | | at the State Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Established in 1855 from Bosque and Navarro |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | Counties, Parker County is named for Isaac Parker, who brought |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 224 settlers to the region in that same year; the county's |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | population and economy continued to expand during the late 19th |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | century, spurred by the construction of three railroads in the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | area; over the decades, Parker County has undergone many changes |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and today benefits from a diverse market centered on commercial |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and agribusiness, with local farms and ranches raising beef |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | cattle, dairy cows, and horses and growing pecans and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | peaches; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Weatherford, the county seat, offers such |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | attractions as Clark Gardens, the Doss Heritage and Culture |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Center, and the Museum of the Americas; the downtown historic |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | district is the site of the old-time Farmers Market, as well as |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | First Monday Trade Days, one of the oldest open-air markets in |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Texas; named the Peach Capital of Texas, Weatherford draws more |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | than 35,000 attendees each year with the Parker County Peach |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Festival, and because of its proximity to the headquarters of the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | National Cutting Horse Association and its major events, the city |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | has gained recognition as the Cutting Horse Capital of the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | World; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Springtown was established in 1859 by Captain |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Joseph Ward of New Jersey, who was impressed by the area's |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | natural beauty and its 25 cold springs; originally known as |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Littleton Springs, it was renamed Springtown in the 1870s and |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | incorporated in 1884; and |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Located at the western edge of the Dallas/Fort |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Worth Metroplex, Parker County offers an attractive rural |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | setting combined with proximity to urban amenities, and its |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | citizens can look back with pride at their unique history while |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | they work to build a bright future; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 25, 2019, as Parker |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | County Day at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | delegation sincere best wishes for a meaningful and memorable |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | stay in Austin. |
