11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 267
22 WHEREAS, Representatives of the City of Plano, the Plano
33 Chamber of Commerce, and the Plano Independent School District
44 are visiting Austin on February 27 and 28, 2019, to take part in
55 Plano Legislative Days at the State Capitol; and
66 WHEREAS, Boasting a population of approximately 283,000,
77 this self-styled City of Excellence has garnered multiple
88 accolades in recent years for its prosperity and quality of life;
99 in 2018, Plano was recognized as the best place to live in America
1010 by AreaVibes, the best city to buy a house by Niche, and the best
1111 city for jobs by Forbes, while maintaining its status as one of
1212 the safest cities in America as recognized by WalletHub and
1313 remaining among the five best-performing cities as recognized by
1414 the Milken Institute; and
1515 WHEREAS, Contributing greatly to the city's success is the
1616 Plano Chamber of Commerce, which is committed to supporting
1717 economic growth through advocacy, education, innovation, and
1818 collaboration; promoting the city's outstanding workforce,
1919 competitive business climate, world-class business parks, and
2020 accessibility, the chamber represents many iconic global
2121 corporations, including Toyota Motor North America, Liberty
2222 Mutual Insurance, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Boeing Global Services,
2323 NTT DATA, JCPenney, FedEx Office, Frito-Lay, and Capital One; its
2424 efforts have earned the Plano Chamber a five-star accreditation
2525 from the United States Chamber of Commerce, placing it among the
2626 top one percent of chambers of commerce in the nation, and the
2727 distinguished honor of being named 2018 Chamber of the Year by
2828 the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives; and
2929 WHEREAS, The Plano Independent School District is likewise
3030 benefiting the city and area residents, with nearly 7,000 members
3131 of its faculty and staff working to prepare the district's more
3232 than 53,000 students for the challenges and opportunities that
3333 lie ahead; district teachers average more than 11 years of
3434 experience, and 35 percent of them hold master's degrees or
3535 above; more than 96 percent of district students graduate in four
3636 years, and their scores on college entrance exams continue to
3737 exceed those of their peers nationwide; in addition, 112 district
3838 seniors were awarded semifinalist standing in the 2019 National
3939 Merit Scholarship Program; the district is also home to a number
4040 of state, national, and international winners in fine arts,
4141 career and technical education, and science competitions;
4242 moreover, two middle schools have received the distinction of
4343 Texas Schools to Watch, and nine district PTAs have been
4444 recognized as National PTA Schools of Excellence; and
4545 WHEREAS, A true Lone Star success story, Plano is a diverse
4646 and inclusive city that comfortably competes on the global stage
4747 for any business, individual, or family looking for a place to
4848 call home, and the City of Plano, the Plano Chamber of Commerce,
4949 and the Plano Independent School District are helping to build an
5050 even brighter and more prosperous future for their thriving
5151 community; now, therefore, be it
5252 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
5353 Legislature, hereby recognize February 27 and 28, 2019, as Plano
5454 Legislative Days at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting
5555 delegation sincere best wishes for an informative and enjoyable
5656 stay in Austin.
