2	2	WHEREAS, Representatives of the City of Plano, the Plano
3	3	Chamber of Commerce, and the Plano Independent School District
4	4	are visiting Austin on February 27 and 28, 2019, to take part in
5	5	Plano Legislative Days at the State Capitol; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Boasting a population of approximately 283,000,
7	7	this self-styled City of Excellence has garnered multiple
8	8	accolades in recent years for its prosperity and quality of life;
9	9	in 2018, Plano was recognized as the best place to live in America
10	10	by AreaVibes, the best city to buy a house by Niche, and the best
11	11	city for jobs by Forbes, while maintaining its status as one of
12	12	the safest cities in America as recognized by WalletHub and
13	13	remaining among the five best-performing cities as recognized by
14	14	the Milken Institute; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Contributing greatly to the city's success is the
16	16	Plano Chamber of Commerce, which is committed to supporting
17	17	economic growth through advocacy, education, innovation, and
18	18	collaboration; promoting the city's outstanding workforce,
19	19	competitive business climate, world-class business parks, and
20	20	accessibility, the chamber represents many iconic global
21	21	corporations, including Toyota Motor North America, Liberty
22	22	Mutual Insurance, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Boeing Global Services,
23	23	NTT DATA, JCPenney, FedEx Office, Frito-Lay, and Capital One; its
24	24	efforts have earned the Plano Chamber a five-star accreditation
25	25	from the United States Chamber of Commerce, placing it among the
26	26	top one percent of chambers of commerce in the nation, and the
27	27	distinguished honor of being named 2018 Chamber of the Year by
28	28	the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives; and
29	29	WHEREAS, The Plano Independent School District is likewise
30	30	benefiting the city and area residents, with nearly 7,000 members
31	31	of its faculty and staff working to prepare the district's more
32	32	than 53,000 students for the challenges and opportunities that
33	33	lie ahead; district teachers average more than 11 years of
34	34	experience, and 35 percent of them hold master's degrees or
35	35	above; more than 96 percent of district students graduate in four
36	36	years, and their scores on college entrance exams continue to
37	37	exceed those of their peers nationwide; in addition, 112 district
38	38	seniors were awarded semifinalist standing in the 2019 National
39	39	Merit Scholarship Program; the district is also home to a number
40	40	of state, national, and international winners in fine arts,
41	41	career and technical education, and science competitions;
42	42	moreover, two middle schools have received the distinction of
43	43	Texas Schools to Watch, and nine district PTAs have been
44	44	recognized as National PTA Schools of Excellence; and
45	45	WHEREAS, A true Lone Star success story, Plano is a diverse
46	46	and inclusive city that comfortably competes on the global stage
47	47	for any business, individual, or family looking for a place to
48	48	call home, and the City of Plano, the Plano Chamber of Commerce,
49	49	and the Plano Independent School District are helping to build an
50	50	even brighter and more prosperous future for their thriving
51	51	community; now, therefore, be it
52	52	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
53	53	Legislature, hereby recognize February 27 and 28, 2019, as Plano
54	54	Legislative Days at the State Capitol and extend to the visiting
55	55	delegation sincere best wishes for an informative and enjoyable
56	56	stay in Austin.
