11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 269
22 WHEREAS, Vanessa E. Wyche serves with great distinction as
33 deputy director of the NASA Johnson Space Center; and
44 WHEREAS, In her role, Vanessa Wyche helps lead nearly
55 10,000 civil service and contractor employees in operations and
66 development of human spaceflight programs; she previously served
77 Johnson Space Center as director of Exploration Integration and
88 Science, guiding efforts to enable human and robotic exploration
99 of deep space in preparation for missions to Mars; over the
1010 course of her noteworthy career as an engineer and manager, she
1111 has also held such important positions as flight manager of
1212 several missions of the retired Space Shuttle Program and
1313 executive officer in the Office of the NASA Administrator; and
1414 WHEREAS, Ms. Wyche is vice chair of the board of Space
1515 Center Houston, and she serves on the board of advisors of
1616 Houston Exponential, SpaceCom, and NASA's College Scholarship
1717 Fund; committed to nurturing the next generation of experts in
1818 science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, she leads an
1919 annual science fair at an underserved elementary school;
2020 moreover, she is executive sponsor of the Johnson Space Center
2121 Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers, and she gives
2222 generously of her time and talents to a number of worthy
2323 organizations, among them The Links, Incorporated, Delta Sigma
2424 Theta Sorority, and Jack and Jill of America; and
2525 WHEREAS, Widely admired for her professional accomplishments
2626 and civic contributions, Ms. Wyche has received numerous
2727 accolades, including two NASA Outstanding Leadership Medals and
2828 two NASA Achievement Medals; in 2017, she was named an Inspiring
2929 Woman from South Carolina by Women in Philanthropy and Leadership
3030 at Coastal Carolina University; she holds both a bachelor's degree
3131 in engineering and a master's degree in bioengineering from Clemson
3232 University; and
3333 WHEREAS, Through her vision, leadership, and dedication,
3434 Vanessa Wyche has greatly benefited the nation's space program,
3535 and she has set an inspiring example for her fellow citizens;
3636 now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3838 Legislature, hereby honor Vanessa E. Wyche for her outstanding
3939 service as deputy director of the NASA Johnson Space Center and
4040 extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be
4141 it further
4242 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4343 prepared for Ms. Wyche as an expression of high regard by the
4444 Texas Senate.
