4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, In her role, Vanessa Wyche helps lead nearly |

5 | 5 | | 10,000 civil service and contractor employees in operations and |

6 | 6 | | development of human spaceflight programs; she previously served |

7 | 7 | | Johnson Space Center as director of Exploration Integration and |

8 | 8 | | Science, guiding efforts to enable human and robotic exploration |

9 | 9 | | of deep space in preparation for missions to Mars; over the |

10 | 10 | | course of her noteworthy career as an engineer and manager, she |

11 | 11 | | has also held such important positions as flight manager of |

12 | 12 | | several missions of the retired Space Shuttle Program and |

13 | 13 | | executive officer in the Office of the NASA Administrator; and |

14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Wyche is vice chair of the board of Space |

15 | 15 | | Center Houston, and she serves on the board of advisors of |

16 | 16 | | Houston Exponential, SpaceCom, and NASA's College Scholarship |

17 | 17 | | Fund; committed to nurturing the next generation of experts in |

18 | 18 | | science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, she leads an |

19 | 19 | | annual science fair at an underserved elementary school; |
---|
20 | 20 | | moreover, she is executive sponsor of the Johnson Space Center |

21 | 21 | | Chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers, and she gives |

22 | 22 | | generously of her time and talents to a number of worthy |

23 | 23 | | organizations, among them The Links, Incorporated, Delta Sigma |

25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Widely admired for her professional accomplishments |

26 | 26 | | and civic contributions, Ms. Wyche has received numerous |

27 | 27 | | accolades, including two NASA Outstanding Leadership Medals and |

28 | 28 | | two NASA Achievement Medals; in 2017, she was named an Inspiring |

29 | 29 | | Woman from South Carolina by Women in Philanthropy and Leadership |

30 | 30 | | at Coastal Carolina University; she holds both a bachelor's degree |

31 | 31 | | in engineering and a master's degree in bioengineering from Clemson |
