| 3 | 3 | | Incorporated, is visiting the State Capitol on February 26, |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1946, The Links is a volunteer service |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | organization for professional women who are committed to |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | enriching the culture of African Americans and other persons of |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | African ancestry and improving their economic status; it has a |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | membership of more than 15,000 women of color in 288 chapters |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | across the country and in the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | of the Bahamas; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, The business and civic leaders, mentors, role |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | models, and activists of this nonprofit corporation volunteer |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | over one million hours annually in projects to strengthen their |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | communities and make a positive difference in the lives of |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | others; through the years, the group has received awards from |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | such organizations as the United Nations Association of New York |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and the Leon H. Sullivan Foundation; and |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, The dedicated women of the Western Area of The |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Links work in behalf of children, families, and the disadvantaged |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and support the University of California Davis Women's |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | Cardiovascular Medicine Program, the Mayme A. Clayton Library |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | and Museum, historically black colleges, and Habitat for |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Humanity; Bullying, Trashtalking: It's No Joke, another of the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | important initiatives of the Western Area, empowers youth with |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | skills to address offending behavior; and |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The members of The Links have demonstrated |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | outstanding leadership and commitment to their communities and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | their nation, setting high standards of civic engagement to which |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | others may aspire; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 26, 2019, as The Links, |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Incorporated, Day at the State Capitol and extend to members of |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | the Western Area of The Links, Incorporated, best wishes for a |

| 35 | 35 | | memorable and meaningful visit to Austin; and, be it further |
