| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The birthplace of Texas country, Tejano, and |

| 6 | 6 | | other distinctive styles, the Lone Star State has a history of |

| 7 | 7 | | producing music in a vast range of genres, and such talented |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | artists as Beyoncé, Gary Clark Jr., Flaco Jimenez, George Strait, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and Willie Nelson have all called Texas home; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, To serve the state's vibrant music community, the |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | Recording Academy, the organization responsible for the Grammy |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Awards, established a Texas chapter in 1998; at the 61st Annual |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Grammy Awards in 2019, music professionals from Texas received 48 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | nominations and won 12 awards, including Album of the Year by |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Golden native Kacey Musgraves; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, An integral part of the Texas economy, the music |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | industry is tied to more than 160,000 jobs throughout the state, |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and each year, live music festivals generate hundreds of millions |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of dollars in economic activity; as a reflection of its support for |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | this important commercial sector, the Texas Legislature created |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the Texas Music Office, which opened its doors in 1990; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, The innovative musicians of the Lone Star State |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | are furthering an exceptional legacy of artistic achievement, |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and in so doing, they are making a notable contribution to the |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | culture and economy of Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |

| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 26, 2019, as Grammy Texas |
