1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 274
2	2	WHEREAS, Civic and business leaders of the Coastal Bend are
3	3	gathering in Austin on February 27, 2019, to celebrate the many
4	4	qualities that make their region one of the state's premier places
5	5	to live, work, and play; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Each year, the Coastal Bend draws more than 9.6
7	7	million travelers from across the country and around the globe; in
8	8	Corpus Christi alone, these 9.6 million guests collectively spend
9	9	nearly 21 million days visiting the city, thereby infusing over $1.3
10	10	billion into the local economy and supporting some 29,000 jobs; and
11	11	WHEREAS, The myriad popular attractions in the area
12	12	include the Padre Island National Seashore, the Texas State
13	13	Aquarium, and the USS Lexington aircraft carrier; the Coastal
14	14	Bend also hosts many youth and amateur sporting events; and
15	15	WHEREAS, The Coastal Bend is home to thriving industry due to
16	16	the Port of Corpus Christi, which is the nation's fourth-largest
17	17	port by tonnage and is known as the Energy Port of the Americas; and
18	18	WHEREAS, There are many fine educational institutions in the
19	19	Coastal Bend area, including Texas A&M University--Corpus Christi,
20	20	Del Mar Community College, and the schools of the Corpus Christi
21	21	Independent School District, all of which are working to educate
22	22	and train the workforce and the leaders of the future; now,
23	23	therefore, be it
24	24	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
25	25	Legislature, hereby recognize February 27, 2019, as Coastal Bend
26	26	Day at the State Capitol and extend to the region's delegation
27	27	sincere best wishes for a memorable and enjoyable event.
