5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, A full and productive life drew to a close with |

6 | 6 | | the passing of James W. Arnold of Tyler on January 19, 2019, at |
---|
7 | 7 | | the age of 87; and |
---|
8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Born in Arp on February 8, 1931, Jim Arnold was |
---|
9 | 9 | | the son of Loys and Clara Arnold; he grew up with two brothers, |
---|
10 | 10 | | Richard and Paul, and he graduated as valedictorian of London |
---|
11 | 11 | | High School; while completing his bachelor's degree in |
---|
12 | 12 | | mechanical engineering at Southern Methodist University, he |
---|
13 | 13 | | worked during summers as a roughneck; and |
---|
14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Arnold married his high school sweetheart, |
---|
15 | 15 | | the former Bessie Nell Hazzard, on July 19, 1952, and they |
---|
16 | 16 | | settled in Tyler, where they raised their four children, Sherry, |
---|
17 | 17 | | Keith, Jamie, and Mollie; in later years, he welcomed into his |
---|
18 | 18 | | treasured family nine grandsons, Ben, Walter, James, Stephen, |
---|
19 | 19 | | Jonathan, John, Jimmy, Will, and A. D., and four granddaughters, |
---|
20 | 20 | | Melissa, Nellie, Bessie, and Lilly, as well as eight |
---|
21 | 21 | | great-grandchildren; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Arnold's career began with Woolf & Magee, |
---|
23 | 23 | | where he was hired as a drilling engineer and rose to become |
---|
24 | 24 | | president and owner of the company; a leader in his industry, he |
---|
25 | 25 | | served as president of the board of the International Association |
---|
26 | 26 | | of Drilling Contractors; he also enjoyed investing in oil and gas |
---|
27 | 27 | | ventures, and he was a member of the boards of the American |
---|
28 | 28 | | Petroleum Institute and the National Petroleum Council; highly |
---|
29 | 29 | | respected in the Tyler business community, he was a founding |
---|
30 | 30 | | director of Heritage National Bank and president of the Tyler |
---|
31 | 31 | | Area Chamber of Commerce board; he further served as chair of the |
---|
32 | 32 | | East Texas Medical Center Regional Healthcare System, chair of |
---|
33 | 33 | | the Stewart Regional Blood Center, and president of the Texas |
---|
34 | 34 | | Rose Festival Association; for more than two decades, he |
---|
35 | 35 | | officiated high school football games, and he served as president |
---|
36 | 36 | | of the Tyler Chapter of the Southwest Football Officials |
---|
37 | 37 | | Association; he was also a valued member of Green Acres Baptist |
---|
38 | 38 | | Church for nearly 45 years and served as deacon emeritus, and his |
---|
39 | 39 | | strong faith shone through his generosity and compassion; and |
---|
40 | 40 | | WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to his family and his community, |
---|
41 | 41 | | Jim Arnold made a meaningful difference in the lives of his loved |
---|
42 | 42 | | ones and fellow citizens alike, and his contributions will be |
---|
43 | 43 | | fondly remembered for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
---|
44 | 44 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
45 | 45 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of James W. Arnold |
---|
46 | 46 | | and extend sincere condolences to all who mourn his passing; and, |
---|
47 | 47 | | be it further |
---|
48 | 48 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

49 | 49 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
