| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Texas Association of Public Employee Retirement |

| 3 | 3 | | Systems is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2019; and |

| 4 | 4 | | WHEREAS, Founded in 1989, TEXPERS is a statewide voluntary |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | nonprofit organization; it educates its members about effective |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | management of public employee retirement systems and advocates |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | for the secure retirement of Texans who have dedicated their |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | careers to public service; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, The association's member systems represent nearly |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 300,000 active and retired employees of police and fire |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | departments, municipalities, airport authorities, hospital |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | districts, community colleges, and other agencies; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Public employee retirement systems in Texas make |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | a substantial direct economic impact in the state, helping to |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | create jobs and commerce; in 2018, they provided well over |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | $29 billion in economic stimulus in Texas, and they generated |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | $4.4 billion in federal, state, and local taxes; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Since its inception, TEXPERS has provided forums |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | for discussing state and national legislative issues that affect |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | public pension systems; it has also supplied important |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | information on retirement system administration, benefit design, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | actuarial integrity, federal programs, and protection of the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | rights of pension systems and the employees they cover; in |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | addition, it offers valuable training for trustees and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | administrators; and |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Public pension systems offer tremendous benefit |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | both to their members and to society as a whole, and through its |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | outstanding efforts, TEXPERS plays a vital role in maintaining |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | the soundness of public pension funds; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate the Texas Association of Public |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Employee Retirement Systems on its 30th anniversary and extend to |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | all those associated with this noteworthy organization sincere |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | best wishes for continued success; and, be it further |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | prepared for the association as an expression of high regard by |
|---|
