2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

3 | 3 | | recognize the Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office |

4 | 4 | | on the occasion of its 100th anniversary; and |
---|
5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's |
---|
6 | 6 | | Office was established on October 19, 1919; Jesse Brown, who |
---|
7 | 7 | | devoted more than 40 years to serving the people of the county, |
---|
8 | 8 | | was the county's first criminal district attorney; and |
---|
9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Through the years, the office has been led by 15 |
---|
10 | 10 | | exemplary attorneys, including Tim Curry, who served for 37 |
---|
11 | 11 | | years, and current Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney |
---|
12 | 12 | | Sharen Wilson; and |
---|
13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, The office has been at the forefront of numerous |
---|
14 | 14 | | advances in the legal profession; it hired the state's first |
---|
15 | 15 | | woman and first African American assistant criminal district |
---|
16 | 16 | | attorneys and created the first known pretrial diversion |
---|
17 | 17 | | program; it created an open file policy for defense attorneys |
---|
18 | 18 | | decades before the practice was mandated, and the office was |
---|
19 | 19 | | among the first in the state to accept electronic filing of |
---|
20 | 20 | | criminal cases and to establish a victims' assistance office; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, For 100 years, the Tarrant County Criminal |
---|
22 | 22 | | District Attorney's Office has served the county's citizens with |
---|
23 | 23 | | integrity and professionalism, and it is truly fitting that the |
---|
24 | 24 | | office receive special recognition on this milestone in its |
---|
25 | 25 | | history; now, therefore, be it |
---|
26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby commend the attorneys and staff of the |
---|
28 | 28 | | Tarrant County Criminal District Attorney's Office on their |
---|
29 | 29 | | commitment to enhancing public safety through vigorous |
---|
30 | 30 | | enforcement of the law and extend to them best wishes for |
---|
31 | 31 | | continued success; and, be it further |
---|
32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |

33 | 33 | | honor of this office and as an expression of high regard from the |
