3 | 3 | | and businesspeople from Richardson and the North Texas high-tech |

4 | 4 | | community are gathering at the State Capitol for |

5 | 5 | | Richardson/Telecom Corridor Legislative Day; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, North Texas boasts the seventh-greatest |
---|
7 | 7 | | concentration of high-tech jobs in the nation and more than |
---|
8 | 8 | | one-third of all the high-tech jobs in the state; home to over |
---|
9 | 9 | | 100,000 people, Richardson has a large number of technology and |
---|
10 | 10 | | telecommunications companies, as well as financial services and |
---|
11 | 11 | | insurance firms and corporate headquarters, and it ranks as a |
---|
12 | 12 | | major technology center with global reach; the city is also home |
---|
13 | 13 | | to Tech Titans, the largest technology trade association in |
---|
14 | 14 | | Texas, representing a quarter-million employees in more than 300 |
---|
15 | 15 | | member companies and serving as an innovation hub for |
---|
16 | 16 | | entrepreneurs, universities, and corporations; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, The collaboration between business and government |
---|
18 | 18 | | that characterizes the area is due in large part to the committed |
---|
19 | 19 | | efforts of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce, a five-star |
---|
20 | 20 | | accredited member of the United States Chamber of Commerce, as |
---|
21 | 21 | | well as the vital support provided by the City of Richardson and |
---|
22 | 22 | | the Richardson Economic Development Partnership, the first |
---|
23 | 23 | | accredited economic development organization in the Dallas-Fort |
---|
24 | 24 | | Worth Metroplex; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Richardson has been among the most successful |
---|
26 | 26 | | cities in the nation in promoting economic development, having |
---|
27 | 27 | | attracted such nationally and internationally renowned companies |
---|
28 | 28 | | as Texas Instruments, State Farm, AT&T, Verizon, Fujitsu Network |
---|
29 | 29 | | Communications, RealPage, GEICO, Ericsson, Cisco, Raytheon, Blue |

30 | 30 | | Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Fossil, and Lennox International; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, The exceptional quality of life in Richardson |

32 | 32 | | contributes to making this community an especially desirable |

33 | 33 | | location; residents benefit from highly regarded educational |
---|
34 | 34 | | institutions like Richland College and dynamic mixed-use urban |
---|
35 | 35 | | developments such as CityLine, and they can enjoy nearly 1,000 |

36 | 36 | | acres of parkland and the nationally known Cottonwood Art |
---|
37 | 37 | | Festival and the Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival; and |
---|
38 | 38 | | WHEREAS, The University of Texas at Dallas, a Texas Tier |
---|
39 | 39 | | One research university located in Richardson, graduates 90 |
---|
40 | 40 | | percent of its students with degrees in either the sciences or |
---|
41 | 41 | | business, and it is home to a number of highly ranked schools, |
---|
42 | 42 | | including the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer |

43 | 43 | | Science and the Naveen Jindal School of Management, which is |
---|
44 | 44 | | consistently rated as one of the top business programs in the |
---|
45 | 45 | | United States; and |

46 | 46 | | WHEREAS, The Richardson Independent School District was |

47 | 47 | | one of only seven Texas Honor Roll Districts in 2018 and one of |
---|
48 | 48 | | only 26 districts across Texas to earn distinction from the Texas |
---|
49 | 49 | | Education Agency for postsecondary readiness; all schools meet |
---|
50 | 50 | | agency standards and have received the agency's "Recognized" |
---|
51 | 51 | | rating for six consecutive years, and Richardson Independent |
---|
52 | 52 | | School District campuses have exceeded the average STAAR passage |
---|
53 | 53 | | rates in every subject; the district boasts 23 United States |
---|
54 | 54 | | Department of Education National Blue Ribbon campuses, and all |
---|
55 | 55 | | four of its high schools were named among the nation's best by |
---|
56 | 56 | | Newsweek; and |

57 | 57 | | WHEREAS, The Richardson Chamber of Commerce and the area's |

58 | 58 | | technology leadership have made Richardson's Telecom Corridor |

59 | 59 | | one of the showplaces of modern Texas, and the city's residents |

60 | 60 | | may take great pride in their many accomplishments as they look |

61 | 61 | | forward to the opportunities that lie ahead; now, therefore, |
