11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 309
22 WHEREAS, On March 6, 2019, proud residents, civic leaders,
33 and businesspeople from Richardson and the North Texas high-tech
44 community are gathering at the State Capitol for
55 Richardson/Telecom Corridor Legislative Day; and
66 WHEREAS, North Texas boasts the seventh-greatest
77 concentration of high-tech jobs in the nation and more than
88 one-third of all the high-tech jobs in the state; home to over
99 100,000 people, Richardson has a large number of technology and
1010 telecommunications companies, as well as financial services and
1111 insurance firms and corporate headquarters, and it ranks as a
1212 major technology center with global reach; the city is also home
1313 to Tech Titans, the largest technology trade association in
1414 Texas, representing a quarter-million employees in more than 300
1515 member companies and serving as an innovation hub for
1616 entrepreneurs, universities, and corporations; and
1717 WHEREAS, The collaboration between business and government
1818 that characterizes the area is due in large part to the committed
1919 efforts of the Richardson Chamber of Commerce, a five-star
2020 accredited member of the United States Chamber of Commerce, as
2121 well as the vital support provided by the City of Richardson and
2222 the Richardson Economic Development Partnership, the first
2323 accredited economic development organization in the Dallas-Fort
2424 Worth Metroplex; and
2525 WHEREAS, Richardson has been among the most successful
2626 cities in the nation in promoting economic development, having
2727 attracted such nationally and internationally renowned companies
2828 as Texas Instruments, State Farm, AT&T, Verizon, Fujitsu Network
2929 Communications, RealPage, GEICO, Ericsson, Cisco, Raytheon, Blue
3030 Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Fossil, and Lennox International; and
3131 WHEREAS, The exceptional quality of life in Richardson
3232 contributes to making this community an especially desirable
3333 location; residents benefit from highly regarded educational
3434 institutions like Richland College and dynamic mixed-use urban
3535 developments such as CityLine, and they can enjoy nearly 1,000
3636 acres of parkland and the nationally known Cottonwood Art
3737 Festival and the Wildflower! Arts & Music Festival; and
3838 WHEREAS, The University of Texas at Dallas, a Texas Tier
3939 One research university located in Richardson, graduates 90
4040 percent of its students with degrees in either the sciences or
4141 business, and it is home to a number of highly ranked schools,
4242 including the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer
4343 Science and the Naveen Jindal School of Management, which is
4444 consistently rated as one of the top business programs in the
4545 United States; and
4646 WHEREAS, The Richardson Independent School District was
4747 one of only seven Texas Honor Roll Districts in 2018 and one of
4848 only 26 districts across Texas to earn distinction from the Texas
4949 Education Agency for postsecondary readiness; all schools meet
5050 agency standards and have received the agency's "Recognized"
5151 rating for six consecutive years, and Richardson Independent
5252 School District campuses have exceeded the average STAAR passage
5353 rates in every subject; the district boasts 23 United States
5454 Department of Education National Blue Ribbon campuses, and all
5555 four of its high schools were named among the nation's best by
5656 Newsweek; and
5757 WHEREAS, The Richardson Chamber of Commerce and the area's
5858 technology leadership have made Richardson's Telecom Corridor
5959 one of the showplaces of modern Texas, and the city's residents
6060 may take great pride in their many accomplishments as they look
6161 forward to the opportunities that lie ahead; now, therefore,
6262 be it
6363 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
6464 Legislature, hereby recognize March 6, 2019, as
6565 Richardson/Telecom Corridor Legislative Day at the State Capitol
6666 and extend a warm welcome to the visiting delegation.
