1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 311
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	welcome the members of the delegation from The University of
4	4	Texas at Arlington who are visiting Austin on March 6, 2019, to
5	5	celebrate The University of Texas at Arlington Day at the
6	6	Capitol; and
7	7	WHEREAS, The University of Texas at Arlington was founded
8	8	in 1895 as Arlington College; it became a part of The University
9	9	of Texas System in 1967; and
10	10	WHEREAS, The university is home to research centers in a
11	11	wide range of disciplines and has earned a classification of
12	12	"R-1: Doctoral Universities--Very High Research Activity" from
13	13	the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching; total
14	14	funding for research exceeded $100 million in 2018; and
15	15	WHEREAS, Student enrollment exceeded 42,000 in the fall of
16	16	2018, and global enrollment has increased significantly; the
17	17	student body is noted for its diversity, and the university has
18	18	been designated as a Hispanic-Serving Institution; and
19	19	WHEREAS, The university is the state's largest producer of
20	20	baccalaureate-degreed nurses, and it was ranked first in the
21	21	state for veterans and their families by Military Times; this
22	22	outstanding institution and its alumni have had an enormous
23	23	impact on the Texas economy, and it is truly fitting that a day be
24	24	set aside to recognize the university's countless contributions
25	25	to the state; now, therefore, be it
26	26	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
27	27	Legislature, hereby commend the students, faculty, and alumni of
28	28	The University of Texas at Arlington on their commitment to
29	29	excellence in education and extend to them best wishes for a
30	30	productive and memorable University of Texas at Arlington Day at
31	31	the Capitol; and, be it further
32	32	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
33	33	honor of this special occasion.
