2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Chemical Council and the |

3 | 3 | | Association of Chemical Industry of Texas are gathering in Austin |

4 | 4 | | on February 27, 2019, for Chemistry Technology Day at the State |
---|
5 | 5 | | Capitol; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Texas is the nation's largest chemical producer, |
---|
7 | 7 | | and chemicals are the Lone Star State's second-largest export, with |
---|
8 | 8 | | the $36 billion in chemicals exported from Texas last year |
---|
9 | 9 | | representing more than 20 percent of the state's total exports; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, The chemical industry further contributes to the |
---|
11 | 11 | | state's economy by directly employing more than 78,000 Texans and |
---|
12 | 12 | | indirectly employing another half million, including contractors, |
---|
13 | 13 | | suppliers, distributors, and other support personnel; the industry |
---|
14 | 14 | | generates more than $8 billion in salaries and benefits and almost |
---|
15 | 15 | | $3 billion in state and local taxes; and |
---|
16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, Organized in 1953, the Texas Chemical Council was |
---|
17 | 17 | | the country's first state-level trade association to represent |
---|
18 | 18 | | the common interests of the members of an industry; the |
---|
19 | 19 | | Association of Chemical Industry of Texas supports a similar |
---|
20 | 20 | | mission to that of the Texas Chemical Council, bringing |
---|
21 | 21 | | manufacturers and suppliers together to work for their mutual |
---|
22 | 22 | | benefit; both organizations seek to address issues pertaining to |
---|
23 | 23 | | the chemical industry, such as permitting, energy policy, |
---|
24 | 24 | | environmental protection, taxes, and the workforce; and |
---|
25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Essential to the manufacture of myriad consumer |
---|
26 | 26 | | items, chemicals play a crucial role in the everyday lives of |
---|
27 | 27 | | Texans, and the observance of Chemistry Technology Day serves to |
---|
28 | 28 | | promote awareness of the industry's importance to the continued |
---|
29 | 29 | | vitality of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it |
---|
30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
31 | 31 | | Legislature, hereby recognize February 27, 2019, as Chemistry |
---|
32 | 32 | | Technology Day at the State Capitol and extend to the Texas |
---|
33 | 33 | | Chemical Council and the Association of Chemical Industry of Texas |
