| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the citizens of Edinburg in celebrating Edinburg Day at the |

| 4 | 4 | | Capitol on March 6, 2019; and |

| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The county seat of Hidalgo County, Edinburg is a |

| 6 | 6 | | thriving community in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley, and the |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | city holds a wealth of opportunities for residents and visitors |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | alike; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Edinburg is one of the fastest-growing cities in |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the state and is considered a regional hub for both health care |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | and air travel; the city is home to The University of Texas Rio |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Grande Valley's main campus and to its School of Medicine; in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | addition, the United States Border Patrol Rio Grande Valley |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Sector is headquartered in Edinburg; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, Edinburg draws thousands of visitors to its |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | sports arenas and recreational venues; the city boasts a |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | professional soccer stadium and the Bert Ogden Arena, a |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | state-of-the-art indoor arena that is the largest of its kind |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | south of San Antonio; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, As a tribute to the valor of hometown legends |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Sergeant Freddy Gonzalez and Private Pedro Cano, both of whom |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | received the Congressional and Texas Legislative Medals of |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Honor, the City of Edinburg is often referred to as the "Hometown |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | of Heroes"; and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, Edinburg has implemented a successful |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | revitalization program that has resulted in improvements |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | throughout the city, and it is a three-time recipient of the |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | All-America City award, one of the oldest and most prestigious |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | municipal recognition awards in the nation; residents can indeed |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | take pride in their flourishing community while looking forward |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | to a bright and prosperous future; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Legislature, hereby commend the citizens of Edinburg for their |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | many contributions to the state and extend to them best wishes |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | for a memorable Edinburg Day at the Capitol; and, be it further |

| 36 | 36 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
