| 3 | 3 | | and diversity to the communities of Texas, and in February 2019, |

| 4 | 4 | | 24 Karrots is celebrating its grand opening as the first vegan |

| 5 | 5 | | café in Kilgore; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, This unique eatery is owned and operated by |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | Sumeyye Samento and her daughter, Desiree Samford; formerly a |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | private chef in California, Ms. Samento moved to Kilgore to study |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | in the Culinary Arts program at Kilgore College; a vegan for 15 |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | years, Ms. Samento began developing vegan versions of popular |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | baked goods for her friends, including cakes and French toast, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | and she started selling them through local outlets; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, On Valentine's Day 2019, Ms. Samento and Ms. Samford |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | held a soft opening of 24 Karrots, with the enthusiastic assistance |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | of Ms. Samford's five-year-old daughter, Evonáe Alda; starting with |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | cinnamon rolls and other pastries, the café's menu is entirely |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | plant-based and features locally sourced organic ingredients, and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Ms. Samento and Ms. Samford plan to continue introducing a variety |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | of new fare; and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | WHEREAS, By offering the residents of Kilgore a unique |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | selection of healthy and delicious vegan dishes, 24 Karrots is |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | contributing to the prosperity and cultural richness of its |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | community, and it is indeed a pleasure to recognize Ms. Samento |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | and Ms. Samford for their creativity and entrepreneurship; now, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | therefore, be it |

| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
