| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | join the citizens of Bee County in celebrating Bee County Day at |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | the Capitol; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Artifacts indicate that the Bee County area was |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | first inhabited by humans 6,000 to 10,000 years ago; European |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | settlers arrived in the early 1800s, and later, 11 area |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | landowners were among the signers of the Texas Declaration of |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Independence; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, On January 25, 1858, the county was officially |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | organized and was named for Barnard E. Bee Sr., an accomplished |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | statesman from South Carolina who later served as secretary of |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | war under Sam Houston; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Bee County covers 866 square miles of the South |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | Texas Plains vegetation region that gently slopes toward the Gulf |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | of Mexico; its thriving agricultural industries and oil and gas |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | operations serve as the foundation of the area's economy; |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Beeville, the county seat, has revitalized its downtown district |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and has been recognized as a Texas Main Street City by the Texas |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Historical Commission; and |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Bee County is host to many cultural and historical |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | attractions that make it an inviting region in which to live and |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | an interesting area to visit; residents can be proud of their |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | vibrant heritage while looking toward a bright and prosperous |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | future; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | Legislature, hereby recognize the citizens of Bee County and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | extend to them best wishes for a memorable Bee County Day at the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Capitol; and, be it further |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in |
|---|
