2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Louise Appleman is retiring as president of the |

3 | 3 | | Tarrant County College board of trustees in May 2019, drawing to a |
---|
4 | 4 | | close three decades of exemplary service to that institution; and |
---|
5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Appleman was first elected to the TCC board in |
---|
6 | 6 | | 1988, and she has played a leading role in the growth of the |
---|
7 | 7 | | school; during her tenure, the college has seen the development |
---|
8 | 8 | | of new programs, the opening of several new campuses, and an |
---|
9 | 9 | | increase in enrollment to 100,000 students a year; and |
---|
10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, A native of Corpus Christi, Ms. Appleman earned a |
---|
11 | 11 | | nursing degree from Texas Woman's University in 1962; she has |
---|
12 | 12 | | worked as an emergency room nurse in Parkland Hospital and served |
---|
13 | 13 | | as director of in-service education at Baylor All Saints |
---|
14 | 14 | | Hospital; today she runs Appleman and Associates, a relocation |
---|
15 | 15 | | business that assists area employers with the resettlement of |
---|
16 | 16 | | newly hired personnel and their families; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Ms. Appleman has also been a valued member of the |
---|
18 | 18 | | boards of the Tarrant County College Foundation, Workforce |
---|
19 | 19 | | Solutions, Scenic Fort Worth, Scenic Texas, the United Way |
---|
20 | 20 | | Women's Leadership Council, and Streams and Valleys, Inc.; she |
---|
21 | 21 | | has served as president of the Junior League of Fort Worth and the |
---|
22 | 22 | | Beth-El Congregation, director of the Fort Worth Chamber of |
---|
23 | 23 | | Commerce, chair of the Arts Council of Fort Worth and Tarrant |
---|
24 | 24 | | County, cofounder and co-chair of the Women's Foundation of North |
---|
25 | 25 | | Texas, and founding board chair of the North Texas Community |
---|
26 | 26 | | Foundation; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, The recipient of many awards and honors, |
---|
28 | 28 | | Ms. Appleman has been named First Lady of Fort Worth by the |
---|
29 | 29 | | Altrusa Club, a Distinguished Alumna of Texas Woman's |
---|
30 | 30 | | University, and an Outstanding Volunteer by the Fort Worth |
---|
31 | 31 | | chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals; she has |
---|
32 | 32 | | also received a Legacy of Women Award from SafeHaven of Tarrant |
---|
33 | 33 | | County; in all her endeavors, she enjoys the love and support of |
---|
34 | 34 | | her husband, Gordon Appleman; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Louise Appleman's dedication, hard work, and |
---|
36 | 36 | | commitment to excellence have greatly benefited the mission of |
---|
37 | 37 | | Tarrant County College and earned the respect and admiration of |
---|
38 | 38 | | the college's faculty, staff, and students, and she may indeed |
---|
39 | 39 | | reflect with pride on her many outstanding achievements; now, |
---|
40 | 40 | | therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
42 | 42 | | Legislature, hereby honor Louise Appleman on the occasion of her |
---|
43 | 43 | | retirement as president of the Tarrant County College board of |

44 | 44 | | trustees and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
---|
45 | 45 | | success and happiness; and, be it further |
