11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 327
22 WHEREAS, Louise Appleman is retiring as president of the
33 Tarrant County College board of trustees in May 2019, drawing to a
44 close three decades of exemplary service to that institution; and
55 WHEREAS, Ms. Appleman was first elected to the TCC board in
66 1988, and she has played a leading role in the growth of the
77 school; during her tenure, the college has seen the development
88 of new programs, the opening of several new campuses, and an
99 increase in enrollment to 100,000 students a year; and
1010 WHEREAS, A native of Corpus Christi, Ms. Appleman earned a
1111 nursing degree from Texas Woman's University in 1962; she has
1212 worked as an emergency room nurse in Parkland Hospital and served
1313 as director of in-service education at Baylor All Saints
1414 Hospital; today she runs Appleman and Associates, a relocation
1515 business that assists area employers with the resettlement of
1616 newly hired personnel and their families; and
1717 WHEREAS, Ms. Appleman has also been a valued member of the
1818 boards of the Tarrant County College Foundation, Workforce
1919 Solutions, Scenic Fort Worth, Scenic Texas, the United Way
2020 Women's Leadership Council, and Streams and Valleys, Inc.; she
2121 has served as president of the Junior League of Fort Worth and the
2222 Beth-El Congregation, director of the Fort Worth Chamber of
2323 Commerce, chair of the Arts Council of Fort Worth and Tarrant
2424 County, cofounder and co-chair of the Women's Foundation of North
2525 Texas, and founding board chair of the North Texas Community
2626 Foundation; and
2727 WHEREAS, The recipient of many awards and honors,
2828 Ms. Appleman has been named First Lady of Fort Worth by the
2929 Altrusa Club, a Distinguished Alumna of Texas Woman's
3030 University, and an Outstanding Volunteer by the Fort Worth
3131 chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals; she has
3232 also received a Legacy of Women Award from SafeHaven of Tarrant
3333 County; in all her endeavors, she enjoys the love and support of
3434 her husband, Gordon Appleman; and
3535 WHEREAS, Louise Appleman's dedication, hard work, and
3636 commitment to excellence have greatly benefited the mission of
3737 Tarrant County College and earned the respect and admiration of
3838 the college's faculty, staff, and students, and she may indeed
3939 reflect with pride on her many outstanding achievements; now,
4040 therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
4242 Legislature, hereby honor Louise Appleman on the occasion of her
4343 retirement as president of the Tarrant County College board of
4444 trustees and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
4545 success and happiness; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4747 prepared for Ms. Appleman as an expression of high regard by the
4848 Texas Senate.
