3 | 3 | | communities of the Lone Star State, and in 2019, the Garcia |

4 | 4 | | family is celebrating the 80th anniversary of Division Laundry of |

5 | 5 | | San Antonio; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Peter C. Garcia, an immigrant from San Luis |
---|
7 | 7 | | PotosÃ, Mexico, founded Division Laundry as a one-man operation |
---|
8 | 8 | | in a small building inside Fort Sam Houston in 1939; his business |
---|
9 | 9 | | originally provided laundry and sewing services to members of the |
---|
10 | 10 | | 2nd Infantry Division, and after it outgrew its location, |
---|
11 | 11 | | Mr. Garcia moved it into a facility on North New Braunfels |
---|
12 | 12 | | Avenue; he again relocated the business to a new building |
---|
13 | 13 | | designed by the National Institute of Laundering and the National |
---|
14 | 14 | | Dry Cleaning Institute in 1964, and within a decade, it began to |
---|
15 | 15 | | transition from being a military uniform processor to a laundry |
---|
16 | 16 | | linen processor; and |
---|
17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, In 1992, Mr. Garcia's wife, Cecilia Garcia, became |
---|
18 | 18 | | president of Division Laundry; the business continued to flourish |
---|
19 | 19 | | under her leadership and later under the guidance of the couple's |
---|
20 | 20 | | son, Patrick R. Garcia, its current president; the strength and |
---|
21 | 21 | | resilience of the Garcia family were instrumental in rebuilding the |
---|
22 | 22 | | company after its plant was devastated by a fire in 2001, and two |
---|
23 | 23 | | years later, they celebrated the opening of a new plant in its |
---|
24 | 24 | | place; in honor of the company's "rise from the ashes," a stylized |
---|
25 | 25 | | phoenix now appears on its logo and branding; and |
---|
26 | 26 | | WHEREAS, Today, Division Laundry continues to honor its |
---|
27 | 27 | | founder's commitment to service and workmanship, and the Garcias |
---|
28 | 28 | | are now welcoming a third generation of family members, Patricia |
---|
29 | 29 | | Luna, Patrick A. Garcia, and Theresa Garcia, onto the leadership |
---|
30 | 30 | | team; through the years, the company has established contracts with |
---|
31 | 31 | | clients that include hospital systems and hotel chains, and it is a |
---|
32 | 32 | | major provider of jobs in a socioeconomically disadvantaged area of |
---|
33 | 33 | | San Antonio; and |
---|
34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Over the course of eight decades, the Garcia |
---|
35 | 35 | | family's hard work, vision, and commitment to excellence have |
---|
36 | 36 | | made Division Laundry an inspiring success story, and it is a |
---|
37 | 37 | | pleasure to join in congratulating its members on this special |
---|
38 | 38 | | milestone; now, therefore, be it |
---|
39 | 39 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
40 | 40 | | Legislature, hereby commemorate the 80th anniversary of Division |
---|
41 | 41 | | Laundry of San Antonio and extend to its current owners sincere |
---|
42 | 42 | | best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
---|
43 | 43 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
