| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | memories of William Henry Cowden of Mountain Home, who passed |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | away on February 9, 2019, at the age of 92; and |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, The son of Jerry and Lorene Cowden, "Tuffy" Cowden |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | was born on November 19, 1926, in Mineral Wells and grew up with |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | four brothers on the family's ranch in Kerr County; answering his |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | nation's call to duty, he served with the United States Navy in |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the Pacific during World War II; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, After returning from the war, Mr. Cowden wed his |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | high school sweetheart, the former Tommie Jean Womack, and they |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | shared more than three decades together before her passing in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 1977; he later married Edwina Henke; Mr. Cowden took great pride |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | in his two sons, William Cowden Jr. and Mark Cowden, and he had |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include four |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | grandchildren, Courtney Mitchell, William Cody Cowden, William |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | T. Cowden, and Parker Jean Cowden, and four great-grandchildren, |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | Weston, Jalyn, Cason, and Katie Mitchell; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cowden worked as a rancher in Kerr and Frio |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | Counties for many years; he was also briefly employed by the |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Farmers Home Administration, and he served on the boards of First |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | National Bank in Kerrville, NorWest Bank, and Wells Fargo Bank; |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | he further contributed to his community as a member of the boards |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | of The Divide Independent School District, the Kerrville-Kerr |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | County Airport, and the Hill Country Cowboy Camp Meeting; and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, A skilled pilot, Mr. Cowden enjoyed taking |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | friends flying in his Cessna; he was also a man of strong |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | religious faith, and he was a member of the First Presbyterian |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Church for many years; in his later years, he attended The Divide |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | Chapel; and |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share in this |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | esteemed man's love and friendship will always remember him with |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | great tenderness and affection; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of William Henry |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | Cowden and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends; |
|---|
| 40 | 40 | | and, be it further |
|---|
| 41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |
|---|
| 42 | 42 | | prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns |
