44 William Henry Cowden
55 WHEREAS, Family and friends will long cherish their
66 memories of William Henry Cowden of Mountain Home, who passed
77 away on February 9, 2019, at the age of 92; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of Jerry and Lorene Cowden, "Tuffy" Cowden
99 was born on November 19, 1926, in Mineral Wells and grew up with
1010 four brothers on the family's ranch in Kerr County; answering his
1111 nation's call to duty, he served with the United States Navy in
1212 the Pacific during World War II; and
1313 WHEREAS, After returning from the war, Mr. Cowden wed his
1414 high school sweetheart, the former Tommie Jean Womack, and they
1515 shared more than three decades together before her passing in
1616 1977; he later married Edwina Henke; Mr. Cowden took great pride
1717 in his two sons, William Cowden Jr. and Mark Cowden, and he had
1818 the pleasure of seeing his family grow to include four
1919 grandchildren, Courtney Mitchell, William Cody Cowden, William
2020 T. Cowden, and Parker Jean Cowden, and four great-grandchildren,
2121 Weston, Jalyn, Cason, and Katie Mitchell; and
2222 WHEREAS, Mr. Cowden worked as a rancher in Kerr and Frio
2323 Counties for many years; he was also briefly employed by the
2424 Farmers Home Administration, and he served on the boards of First
2525 National Bank in Kerrville, NorWest Bank, and Wells Fargo Bank;
2626 he further contributed to his community as a member of the boards
2727 of The Divide Independent School District, the Kerrville-Kerr
2828 County Airport, and the Hill Country Cowboy Camp Meeting; and
2929 WHEREAS, A skilled pilot, Mr. Cowden enjoyed taking
3030 friends flying in his Cessna; he was also a man of strong
3131 religious faith, and he was a member of the First Presbyterian
3232 Church for many years; in his later years, he attended The Divide
3333 Chapel; and
3434 WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to share in this
3535 esteemed man's love and friendship will always remember him with
3636 great tenderness and affection; now, therefore, be it
3737 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
3838 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of William Henry
3939 Cowden and extend heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends;
4040 and, be it further
4141 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4242 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
4343 this day, it do so in memory of William Henry Cowden.
