44 Charles Winfred Snyder Sr.
55 WHEREAS, A rich and purposeful life drew to a close with
66 the passing of Charles Winfred Snyder Sr. on January 21, 2019, at
77 the age of 96; and
88 WHEREAS, The son of John and Estelle Haddox Snyder, Charles
99 Snyder was born near Okemah, Oklahoma, on April 19, 1922; he grew
1010 up with four brothers and a sister in western Oklahoma before
1111 moving with his family to the Texas Panhandle when he was 15 years
1212 old; following the attack on Pearl Harbor, he answered his
1313 nation's call to duty by enlisting in the United States Army; his
1414 service during World War II included tours in North Africa and
1515 Italy, and he earned a European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign
1616 Medal with five Bronze Stars for his valorous efforts; he was
1717 honorably discharged from the military in 1945, at the rank of
1818 sergeant; and
1919 WHEREAS, Mr. Snyder was joined in matrimony to the former
2020 Dorothy Johnson on January 31, 1948, and they shared a rewarding
2121 union that spanned more than 67 years; in the course of their
2222 marriage, the couple became the proud parents of four children,
2323 Clifford, Linda, Elsie, and Chuck, and later in life, Mr. Snyder
2424 had the pleasure of seeing his cherished family grow to include
2525 four grandchildren, Rachel, Cecilia, Donnie, and Annelise, and
2626 four great-grandchildren, Thomas, Devin, Lila, and Novi; and
2727 WHEREAS, Displaying a strong work ethic from an early age,
2828 Mr. Snyder earned money as a child by tending to cotton fields,
2929 and he went on to hold several jobs before striking out on his own
3030 as a paint contractor; in 1952, he and his wife settled in
3131 Marshall, where he earned a bachelor's degree in religious
3232 studies from East Texas Baptist University; after completing his
3333 education, he established another business, Classic Homes by
3434 Charles Snyder, going on to construct more than a hundred classic
3535 homes in the Marshall area; a man of strong faith, he was also an
3636 ordained Baptist minister, and he preached at the First Baptist
3737 Church mission in Jefferson and served as a substitute pastor for
3838 other local congregations; he was a valued member of Central
3939 Baptist Church for six decades; and
4040 WHEREAS, Charles Snyder embraced life with joy and
4141 enthusiasm, and although he is deeply missed, he will forever
4242 remain a vibrant presence for those who knew and loved him; now,
4343 therefore, be it
4444 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
4545 Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the memory of Charles Winfred
4646 Snyder Sr. and extend sincere sympathy to all who mourn his
4747 passing; and, be it further
4848 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4949 prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
5050 this day, it do so in memory of Charles Snyder.
