11 SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 342
22 WHEREAS, Dr. Ray Deason retired as assistant superintendent
33 of the Ore City Independent School District in September 2017,
44 drawing to a close an exemplary career in education that spanned
55 half a century; and
66 WHEREAS, In 2006, Dr. Ray Deason joined Ore City
77 Independent School District as assistant superintendent, and
88 during his outstanding tenure with the district, he
99 distinguished himself through his well-rounded leadership and
1010 expertise and earned the lasting respect and admiration of his
1111 colleagues; and
1212 WHEREAS, Dr. Deason began his career as a speech
1313 pathologist for Henderson Independent School District, working
1414 across all of its campuses; he devoted a total of 33 years to that
1515 district, briefly teaching at the junior high level before
1616 accepting a position teaching fifth grade at Montgomery
1717 Elementary; at the age of 27, he became a principal at Central
1818 Elementary, and he later assumed the role of principal of
1919 Northside Intermediate School, where he remained for more than
2020 two decades; and
2121 WHEREAS, In the course of five decades in education,
2222 Dr. Deason also held employment with Belton Independent School
2323 District and The University of Texas; over the years, he garnered
2424 numerous honors for his efforts, including being named an H-E-B
2525 Excellence in Education semifinalist, Region 7 Texas Elementary
2626 Principals and Supervisors Association Elementary Principal of
2727 the Year, and Principal of the Year by the Region 7 Texas
2828 Association of Secondary School Principals; furthermore, he was
2929 a statewide appointee to a committee for the Principals'
3030 Incentive Program under Governor George W. Bush; and
3131 WHEREAS, Dr. Deason holds a bachelor's degree in speech
3232 pathology and educational psychology, a master's degree in
3333 education and special education, and a doctorate in educational
3434 leadership and general administration from Stephen F. Austin
3535 State University; and
3636 WHEREAS, Through his dedication, professionalism, and
3737 commitment to excellence, Dr. Ray Deason helped foster a
3838 supportive and challenging educational environment for countless
3939 students in the Lone Star State, and his contributions will
4040 continue to resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be it
4141 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
4242 Legislature, hereby congratulate Dr. Ray Deason on his
4343 retirement as assistant superintendent of the Ore City
4444 Independent School District and extend to him sincere best wishes
4545 for the future; and, be it further
4646 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
4747 prepared for Dr. Deason as an expression of high regard by the
4848 Texas Senate.
