2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Ray Deason retired as assistant superintendent |

3 | 3 | | of the Ore City Independent School District in September 2017, |

4 | 4 | | drawing to a close an exemplary career in education that spanned |
---|
5 | 5 | | half a century; and |
---|
6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, In 2006, Dr. Ray Deason joined Ore City |
---|
7 | 7 | | Independent School District as assistant superintendent, and |
---|
8 | 8 | | during his outstanding tenure with the district, he |
---|
9 | 9 | | distinguished himself through his well-rounded leadership and |
---|
10 | 10 | | expertise and earned the lasting respect and admiration of his |
---|
11 | 11 | | colleagues; and |
---|
12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Deason began his career as a speech |
---|
13 | 13 | | pathologist for Henderson Independent School District, working |
---|
14 | 14 | | across all of its campuses; he devoted a total of 33 years to that |
---|
15 | 15 | | district, briefly teaching at the junior high level before |
---|
16 | 16 | | accepting a position teaching fifth grade at Montgomery |
---|
17 | 17 | | Elementary; at the age of 27, he became a principal at Central |
---|
18 | 18 | | Elementary, and he later assumed the role of principal of |
---|
19 | 19 | | Northside Intermediate School, where he remained for more than |
---|
20 | 20 | | two decades; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, In the course of five decades in education, |
---|
22 | 22 | | Dr. Deason also held employment with Belton Independent School |
---|
23 | 23 | | District and The University of Texas; over the years, he garnered |
---|
24 | 24 | | numerous honors for his efforts, including being named an H-E-B |
---|
25 | 25 | | Excellence in Education semifinalist, Region 7 Texas Elementary |
---|
26 | 26 | | Principals and Supervisors Association Elementary Principal of |
---|
27 | 27 | | the Year, and Principal of the Year by the Region 7 Texas |
---|
28 | 28 | | Association of Secondary School Principals; furthermore, he was |
---|
29 | 29 | | a statewide appointee to a committee for the Principals' |
---|
30 | 30 | | Incentive Program under Governor George W. Bush; and |
---|
31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Deason holds a bachelor's degree in speech |
---|
32 | 32 | | pathology and educational psychology, a master's degree in |
---|
33 | 33 | | education and special education, and a doctorate in educational |
---|
34 | 34 | | leadership and general administration from Stephen F. Austin |
---|
35 | 35 | | State University; and |
---|
36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Through his dedication, professionalism, and |
---|
37 | 37 | | commitment to excellence, Dr. Ray Deason helped foster a |
---|
38 | 38 | | supportive and challenging educational environment for countless |
---|
39 | 39 | | students in the Lone Star State, and his contributions will |
---|
40 | 40 | | continue to resonate for years to come; now, therefore, be it |
---|
41 | 41 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
---|
42 | 42 | | Legislature, hereby congratulate Dr. Ray Deason on his |
---|
43 | 43 | | retirement as assistant superintendent of the Ore City |
---|
44 | 44 | | Independent School District and extend to him sincere best wishes |
---|
45 | 45 | | for the future; and, be it further |
---|
46 | 46 | | RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be |

47 | 47 | | prepared for Dr. Deason as an expression of high regard by the |
