1	1	SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 345
2	2	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
3	3	recognize Dr. Steven H. Tallant, who is retiring on January 31,
4	4	2019, as president of Texas A&M University--Kingsville after
5	5	more than a decade of outstanding service; and
6	6	WHEREAS, Dr. Tallant became the university's 19th
7	7	president in 2008 after having served as provost and vice
8	8	chancellor for academic affairs at the University of
9	9	Wisconsin--Eau Claire; upon assuming the role of president, he
10	10	focused on marketing the campus and increasing enrollment and on
11	11	making the university one of the state's leading institutions of
12	12	higher education; and
13	13	WHEREAS, Under his leadership, the university experienced
14	14	a six-year period when enrollment increased by 54 percent; in
15	15	addition, a number of new undergraduate and graduate programs
16	16	have been created, and new construction and renovation projects
17	17	have totaled more than $200 million; he played a vital role in the
18	18	development of a campus master plan that will guide the school's
19	19	growth over the next 50 years, and he has been the driving force
20	20	behind the new Music Education Complex; and
21	21	WHEREAS, Dr. Tallant has worked closely with other area
22	22	educational entities, and he played a major role in establishing
23	23	the Premont Alliance to save the Premont Independent School
24	24	District from closure; he has been active in a wide range of
25	25	professional and community organizations, and he has received
26	26	numerous honors for his work; and
27	27	WHEREAS, An outstanding educator and administrator,
28	28	Dr. Tallant has had a profound impact on the growth and success
29	29	of Texas A&M University--Kingsville, and his leadership as its
30	30	president will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
31	31	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th
32	32	Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Steven H. Tallant on his
33	33	exceptional service as president of Texas A&M University--Kingsville
34	34	and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his
35	35	endeavors; and, be it further
36	36	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
37	37	him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
