| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Major General John F. Nichols, who retired in January |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | of 2019 as the adjutant general of Texas after a distinguished |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | 40-year career in the United States Air Force; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Major General Nichols received his commission in |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | 1979 through the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | Springs, Colorado; he began his career by serving as an |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | instructor pilot at Reese Air Force Base before transitioning to |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | the F-16 with the 474th Tactical Fighter Wing; and |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, He went on to serve in the 401st Tactical Fighter |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Wing at Torrejon Air Base in Spain, where he advanced to the |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | position of assistant operations officer in the 614th Tactical |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Fighter Squadron; he returned to the United States to work with |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | the Directorate of Operations on Project Checkmate at the |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Pentagon, and he later served with the Wisconsin Air National |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | Guard; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, Major General Nichols joined the Texas Air |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | National Guard in April of 2000 and served as vice commander and |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | commander of the 149th Fighter Wing before assuming the position |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | of adjutant general of Texas; over the course of his career as a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | command pilot, he amassed more than 3,000 flight hours in fighter |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | aircraft; and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | WHEREAS, An esteemed pilot and officer, he is respected and |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | admired by all those with whom he served, and his presence at the |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | Texas Air National Guard will be greatly missed; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend Major General John F. Nichols on his |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | outstanding service to our state and nation and extend to him |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be |
|---|
