| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Krystal Contreras, who is being honored with a |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | 2018-2019 Milken Educator Award; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, The Milken Educator Awards program was established |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | 31 years ago to celebrate, recognize, and encourage innovative |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | educators who are guiding the next generation of leaders and to |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | inspire young people to consider teaching as a career; and |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | WHEREAS, Krystal Contreras has been teaching elementary |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | school children for 14 years, and she is currently a fourth-grade |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | writing teacher at Dr. C.M. Cash Elementary School in San Benito, |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | Texas; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, A truly gifted educator, Krystal is motivated by |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | the understanding that writing is a fundamental element of |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | educational success, and she thoughtfully develops innovative |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and engaging lessons to help her students learn and become |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | independent problem-solvers; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, She maintains high expectations in the classroom, |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and she is credited with helping to achieve a five-percent increase |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | over the last year in the number of her school's fourth-graders who |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | passed their end-of-year writing assessments; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Krystal has promoted success throughout the |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | school by attending professional development workshops and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | researching new writing strategies and then sharing her |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | knowledge and resources with her colleagues; she has also written |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | curriculum and led professional development at the district's |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | "Teachers Teaching Teachers" conference; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Krystal Contreras is the first educator in the San |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Benito Consolidated Independent School District to earn a Milken |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | Educator Award and one of only 33 across the nation to be honored |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | with an award this year; she inspires others through her example, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | and she is indeed deserving of recognition for her recent |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | achievement; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | Legislature, hereby commend Krystal Contreras on her exceptional |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | work as a teacher and congratulate her on receiving a 2018-2019 |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | Milken Educator Award; and, be it further |

| 38 | 38 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
