| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Antonio A. Villarreal III, who was inducted into the |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | Rio Grande Valley Sports Hall of Fame on June 30, 2018; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Tony Villarreal is one of the most successful high |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | school football coaches in Rio Grande Valley history; he is |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | credited with 197 wins as a head coach as well as with having had |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | a profound and positive influence on the lives of his students |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | and fellow coaches in his role as both a teacher and a mentor; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Coach Villarreal began his distinguished 36-year |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | coaching career in 1980 at McAllen High School; he served for a |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | time at Alice High School before joining the staff at Port Isabel |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | High School, where he served as offensive coordinator and then as |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | athletic director and head coach; and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, He went on to serve as athletic coordinator and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | head coach at Pharr-San Juan-Alamo North High School, Hanna |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | High School in Brownsville, and Weslaco High School; over the |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | course of his 27 years as a head coach, his teams advanced to the |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | postseason more than 20 times, won 11 district and two |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | regional championships, and made an appearance in the state |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | semifinals; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Coach Villarreal was known for his ability to |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | prepare his players and motivate them for important games; he |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | received numerous honors, including the 1994 Class 3A Coach of |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | the Year award, and it is truly fitting that he receive special |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | recognition for his outstanding achievements; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | be it |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Legislature, hereby commend Antonio A. Villarreal III on his |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | exceptional work as a coach and educator and extend to him |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | congratulations on being inducted into the Rio Grande Valley |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Sports Hall of Fame in 2018; and, be it further |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
