| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Southwest Early College High School, which is hosting a |

| 4 | 4 | | 2019 Lunar New Year Festival and celebrating the Year of the Hog |

| 5 | 5 | | on February 8; and |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | WHEREAS, Students at Southwest Early College High School, |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | of the Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Independent School District, are |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | hosting a Lunar New Year Festival as part of International Week; |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | beginning February 5, students will participate in a variety of |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | interactive, hands-on workshops designed to introduce them to |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the cultures of Latin America, Asia, and the Middle East; and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, Southwest Early College High School has earned a |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | reputation for excellence for its strong dual-language model, |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | and it has recently introduced Mandarin Chinese as its third |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | campus language; the high school is currently working in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | partnership with The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley to |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | further promote international and foreign language studies; and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | WHEREAS, International Week promises to be both informative |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | and entertaining and will culminate with the much-anticipated |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | Lunar New Year Festival; members of the community are invited to |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | join in the week's festivities and the February 8 celebration, |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | which will include music and an array of Asian-related |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | performances; now, therefore, be it |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | Legislature, hereby commend Southwest Early College High |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | School for its focus on foreign language studies and for |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | promoting a broader understanding of global cultures and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | extend to all best wishes for a memorable 2019 Lunar New Year |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Festival; and, be it further |

| 30 | 30 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
