| 2 | 2 | | WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to |

| 3 | 3 | | recognize Sergio Alberto Tinoco for his commitment to public |
|---|
| 4 | 4 | | service and his success in the face of great adversity; and |
|---|
| 5 | 5 | | WHEREAS, Sergio Tinoco was born in Pharr, Texas, while his |
|---|
| 6 | 6 | | mother, a resident of Reynosa, Mexico, was visiting her parents; |
|---|
| 7 | 7 | | he spent his early years with his mother in Reynosa, and at |
|---|
| 8 | 8 | | the age of six, he moved to his grandparents' home in Weslaco, |
|---|
| 9 | 9 | | Texas; and |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | WHEREAS, Sergio began working as a migrant farmworker at |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | the young age of seven; by the age of 17, he was balancing his |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | academics and two jobs during high school, yet he graduated in |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | the top 10 percent of his class; and |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, Determined to break a family cycle of poverty and |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | migrant work, Sergio joined the United States Army; he served in |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Bosnia-Herzegovina in the aftermath of the Bosnian War and earned |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | numerous commendations, and he retired after 10 years of |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | distinguished service; he went on to have a successful career as |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | a United States Border Patrol agent, and during his tenure, he |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | has carried out his duties in the face of numerous challenging |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | and dangerous circumstances; and |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Sergio has shared his story of perseverance in his |
|---|
| 23 | 23 | | award-winning book, Proud American: The Migrant, Soldier, and |
|---|
| 24 | 24 | | Agent; the compelling memoir chronicles his journey from a young, |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | first-generation American struggling to learn English to a proud |
|---|
| 26 | 26 | | patriot who built a life of purpose and who found success in spite |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | of a difficult background; and |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | WHEREAS, Sergio Tinoco is a beloved husband and father and |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | a cherished member of his community; he exemplifies the highest |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | ideals of public service, and his strength and resilience will |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | continue to inspire others long into the future; now, therefore, |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | be it |

| 33 | 33 | | RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 86th |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Legislature, hereby commend Sergio Alberto Tinoco on his many |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | accomplishments and congratulate him on the exceptional success |

| 36 | 36 | | of his memoir; and, be it further |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for |
